New wires..... Some of the after market wires are, how do we say this politely? CRAP!

If you have spark at the points, you should have spark at the wires.

Make sure you have all the wires in the correct location going to the correct plug.

Take off the dizzy cap and you should see a small line in the top of the dizzy body. When #1 is at TDC, the rotor should be pointing at this line or very close to it.

Make sure the wire that is plugged into this hole goes to the #1 plug. Passenger's side in front.

Next one around clockwise should be #4, driver's side rear,
then #3, drivers side front,
then #2, passenger's side rear.

And, did you remember to put the rotor back in after installing the points?

Thanks dr.scope for the reply but i bought the best wires at the parts store i could get.I put them on the same way they came off and it was running fine.then one day out the blue it cut off,but i forgot to mention after it cut off i got to run for about two seconds but it was spurting and popping and cut off acting like it was off time and i got a book and check the timing and all that good stuff but nothing. I miss my gas sipping vw

Just a guess but is the distributor loose and thus moved and the timing is off which will cause the symptoms you describe.

Got gas?

Maybe get yourself a can of starting fluid and give it a squirt down the carb.

If it fires and runs for a few seconds, then dies, you have a fuel delivery problem.

If it won't fire on that stuff, keep looking for your spark issue.

If it is spark, make sure the wire that goes through the dizzy body isn't touching the body.

Also, some dizzys have a card board insulator between the points spring and the body. If yours is like this and that spring is touching the body, you get no spark.

The dizzy clamp is tight and i have gas i sprayed starter fluid in it and nothing i know its getting fuel.Theres just no spark at the wires. I stuck a screwdriver in the wire and had my brother hold it while i tried to crank it but nothing. ill see if its grounding out inside the dizzy somewhere.

Tranny ground strap broken?

Do you have a resistor rotor? If it is toast you will have spark at the coil but none at the plugs. Good Luck

nothin is broken i checked everything but ill check the rotor and see if itll run.

A resistor rotor will not look bad. test it with an ohmeter, continunity= good. I would try replacing it with a known good rotor. Good Luck

look and make sure that your getting spark out of the coil,if your not then its your points or you have no power going to the coil.also the coil might be bad.if you are getting spark at the coil and nothing out of the wires then you more than likely have a bad rotor.also check your cap for cracks.keep us posted.
