| need advice on how to install rubber grommet into steering knuckle for speedometer cable on "65 VW Beetle sedan...grommet seems too large to insert into opening.. |

| Is your front spindle the original one, or could it be an earlier one? I ask because during 1964 model year, they changed that grommet. Previously it was a metal sleeve and a rubber insert down inside. They changed that to an all-rubber grommet. If you have an earlier one with that metal sleeve then you'll have to pry it out first. I put rebuilt spindles on my 62 recently and couldn't find that grommet in stock when I searched around some, so I used some black silicone along with my old metal sleeve. |

He PM'd me about this. His spindle did have the earlier style with the metal sleeve - he removed it (#3/4 below) and the replacement all-rubber boot (bottom below) worked fine.

| Ah, yes, I forgot about that mangled sleeve. CB drop spindles deleted that as well. |
