When I took my fan off from the altermator, I found one of the thick washers, I believe between the fan and the backing plate, had slightly bent edges. Is it supposed to be like this? It looks symmetric.

| never mind...I think that washer is the one under my 36mm nut, to lock it in place.. |

Yep, it's a lock washer.
Are you sure you're working on a VW, there's no dirt under that thumbnail! :wink: |

| Maybe it's the angle or something, but the fins on that oil cooler look bent up and won't let air flow freely. |
