After buying my 64 last month, I've been waiting for the PO to get the title so I can register it. He ended up having to do a lost title serach and its took about a month for him to finally get in yesterday. He called me up and said to come and get it and he had a couple of other items for me.
He first hands me a stack of pictures of when the car was 3/4 restored. It was not a frame off restore, but close enough. Pretty cool to see those pictures from about 5 years ago & 35K miles later.
Then he hands me a packet - it was the original owners manual packet. It contains the Europa Dealer Address List, the 1964 VW Europa Map, the Original Bill of Sale, the VW Distributors and Dealers in North America, the Manufactors Shipping Tag showing destined US delivery(USA Touristen Tag), and Service Booklets 1 & 2.
What was really interesting is that the 1st owner (I won't disclose her name, but I have it) (I am owner #5) purchased the car in Breman Germany on 10 June 1964 (per the bill of sale), the Service Booklet shows final Delivery Inspection on 15 Jun 64. The car then started to live in Virgina Beach, VA after it arrived stateside. She was them sold on to another man in Aug 1988 in Virgina Beach. The Service Book 2 shows that on 26 Jul 1967 she had 33197 miles. Now after many moons and a couple of other owners, she lives in Arkansas.
I think that this is a prize that will stay in the house and not in the Glove-box (unless I go to a show somewhere).
Can anyone give me an estimate of what the Prize is worth? I'm just curious. |

Hi,
The paper work itself, it's not worth a lot. The value of it, and it isn't a cash value, comes into play only with the car you have, makes it a tad more desirable to a collector to have documented history, which is quite rare.

| Dave is correct. There is no value in the paperwork per say but it does add value to the vehicle. What that would be though isn't really a definate number because it would also depend on the condition of the car. For example an original unrestored car it would be more and a rusted out shell it wouldn't matter nearly as much. |

| I agree with both statements. Sometimes I see classfieds for owners manuals for $50-60+, that's why I was wondering (especially for the map). It's pretty cool showing the AutoBaun highlighted, even Berlin has highlighted showing the East and West . And it's all in German with the Germanic spelling of countries. I plan to keep the paperwork for as long as I own the Bug. The car itself needs a little more TLC, but having that paperwork IMO just adds to the experiance. Now to just get a birth certificate. |
