1. Nothing blocking air (like firewall tarboard loose, rag in shroud, broken thermostat/flaps etc.)
2. All tins in place
3. Timing set correctly
4. Advance working correctly
5. Mixture correct |

Hi. My bug was running warm, too. what kind of bug? what motor, distributor, carb?
my 1776cc motor with dual carbs runs around 210 degrees on a warm day (80 or warmer). Part of my problem is my motor is in a car designed to have a 1200 or 1300 motor in it 65 bug). I have read that larger motors will run hotter, and that is why louvers were added to the deck lids of later beetles with larger engines.
I now prop my deck lid open on hot days.
I ran thru other possibilities as well (timing, tin, seals, oil type, fuel type).
I have been told temps of 210-23o are acceptable in an air-cooled VW.
Hope this helps.

| what is the engine oil temp is it running "warm" at? these engine always seem "warm" and they may be perfectly in specs. my beetle always feels hot but oil temp never really gets above 210 or 220 on the hottest days and i have a 1600sp in a 62. |
