View original topic: Wanted: Pics of CORRECT 60 euro beetle

I have just purchased a 60 model beetle with semaphores and rag. The car is disassembled and I am trying to find out which bumpers and other trim are correct for the car. The hood was shaved of trim and handle, but the side moulding holes are still there, so I know it was a standard model.

TIA.

:? Try doing a search in the gallery under 1960 euro and you will get quite a few...

I'd start by sending away for a birth certificate, this will give you an idea where it was from and the different trim levels offered in that country.

If it has semaphores, it's European. If it has a a ragtop, chances are it's a deluxe. If you look closer at the hood, you'll probably find evidence of bodywork.

I have been working my way thru the gallery but it isn't giving me details of what is CORRECT for the euro beetles.. As far as I can tell the bumpers should be blades with the small bumper guards.

The rag is not original, the PO started putting it in and never finished before buying another car.

I am going to get all the numbers off the body tag this week. Will these have trim info?

I know it had side trim on the car, and yes, there is evidence of hood trim also. The car was originally white. I found that in 60 they had arctic white with only two interior options. I don't care too much for the white or either interior color that was offered; so I will more than likely be changing that.

So if the car isn't going to be original, why sweat it? The VIN won't tell you anything about the trim but as mentioned before, the birth certificate might. Your car may not even be European, it may be a Canadian car.

If you ae going or a stock like restoration, look at the period color combinations and shoot for what you like best, if you are going custom, the only limit is your imagination.
