I am about finished with a 12 volt conversion. I got the 6 to 12 volt bushing that Mid America sells, but it does not fit the 6 volt starter shaft, is it suppposed to? What the hell? I am confused. I took out the old bushing, and obviously if they are supposed to be the same size, I could jus leave in the old one right? Whats the deal.

If you are staying with the 6 volt starter you need a 6 volt bushing. A 12 volt bushing will not fit a 6 volt starter. Its not a bad idea to replace the bushing as 6 volt starter on 12 volts tends to stress things a little.Good Luck

^^ agreed.. If you are still going to use the 6v starter, then keep the 6v bushing..If you are going with 12v starter, have you got the right fliywheel, have you clearanced the 6v transaxle, or have you replaced the tranny case with a later case? What is the setup you are trying to work with?

Thats what I thought. I am using the 6 volt starter and flywheel for now. I will eventually upgrade everything (dual port, freeway flyer, 12 volt starter).....I will get a new 6 volt bushing to replace the old one as it looks a little worn.

Your 6 volt starter will work fine on 12 volts for a long, long time.

Get a self supporting starter. Your bushing problems disappear forever. 8)
