Hi, I recently replaced the pistons and cylinders (along with some other odds and ends) in my 74 super. I put everything back together and tried timing it. I noticed, via my timing light, that the notch on pulley was 4inches down the left side from the top. I didn't replace the rods or crank shaft but...when you put everything back should you turn the engine to a point where the #1 piston is where it should be when the rotor is pointing at the notch on the distributor before you put the heads back on? I don't recall doing that and seems like you would need to in order to line everything backup. I did have the distributor out in order to replace a worn o-ring while the new pistons were being installed.
Or is there something else that could account for the timing to be so far off? Thanks! |
