| The wife doesn't like the "loud sound" of my A1 Merged Header muffler. Any suggestions on an alternative "quieter" muffler for my A1 merged low-down header? I'm running a 1915cc Would like to stay with a ceramic coated if possible. Appreciate the opinions. SavannahVW |

| Maybe call Tiger and ask him if he has a suggestion. He told me when I ordered mine that he could build it with any muffler I wanted. Maybe something along the lines of a Hooker Aero Chamber. I bet Tiger would know though. |

Hotrodvw,
I've got a 1 5/8" merged system with a hideway and it's LOUD. I really want quiet. You serious about your muffler being super quiet? What kind of muffler is it??? |

I would also like to find a quiet low restriction muffler. The problem seems to be that most people making low restriction mufflers actually LIKE the louder sound. Their goal is not to make a quite low restriction muffler.
I LIKE to be able to hear possible detonation and my valve train.
Even if a company gives you their sound reduction specs in dB, it's meaningless as you don't know the harmonic content of the sound.
A Fourrier analysis of the sound output of the muffler would tell you a lot about the character of the sound, but I doubt that most manufacturers even know what Fourrier analysis is, even though it's been used to measure sound in the audio industry for over 20 years.
At the moment I'm using a generic oval Buckpack muffler with a high clearance upswept off road header. It's louder than I'd like, but not anywhere near as loud as the neighbors Harley, so at least I'm not the loudest on the block.
I do believe that it is possible to make a quiet low restriction muffler, however, that usually means that it will be large in size.
I've got a Berg muffler that is physically larger than the Buckpack, and I'm tempted to weld on some pipe and a flange and give it a try.
Does anyone have any suggestions for quiet low restriction mufflers?

I really like the Berg dual QP mufflers. I tried a A1 Magnaflow a few years ago, but after a 10 mile drive I took it off and reinstalled the Berg QP. Its quieter at idle and at WOT.
And I like the "classic" looks better.

| I would like to be financially able to purchase the Berg dual quiet pack system but it's not an option at this time. I've been considering adding a small additional muffler (Flowpack?) in series with the hideaway. I suspect that this would increase back pressure and run hotter so I haven't done it yet but giving up a few HP would be well worth it to quiet the thing down. Have any of you guys tried such a system and, if so, what were the results? |

I built my own, if you go to the muffler websites, magnaflow/flowmaster/dynomax etc they have a lot of info on there universal mufflers and hot loud they are.
I also think for universal, one fits all status a lot of companies offer a box of to large a bore, I went with 2" which is working fone for my 110hp engine, and the muffler companies sight said it would flow 150-200hp. So i fell all these 3" bore are a huge source of the problem.
It now also has a muffler tip that bends under the bumper.
If you cant build one ask tiger at A1 to build something with a quiet non straight through muffler of a bore size no bigger that you really need. |
