My Bug Swing axle tranny seems to be knocking under any acceleration or when maintaining a constant speed. At first I thought it was the swing axle joint, but the knocking completely ceases when I let off the gas. I know it's not engine noise, though, It's slight in 3rd gear, loud in 4th, but doesn't happen at all in 1st or 2nd. It also knocks exactly once per rotation of the wheel. And I am topped off on fluids, clutch feels and catches great, and the tranny has absolutely no noticeable issues other than the knocking noise.
I have an IRS swap that I'm planning on in about 8 months, and my main concern is that I can make it until then. I don't want to have to do any maintenance on this swing axle, but I don't want to be rushed into the IRS. Any idea what the knocking noise might be? Anything I can do to further diagnose? |

No problems at all, other than the synchro in 1st is completely non functioning (Is there even a synchro in first? I know some trannys dont). Other than that though, stays in all the gears, shifts great. |
