View original topic: Type IV Pops?????

We have a 2400 CC type IV with a single carb, in a prerunner which has @ 1200 miles on it since being built by a reputable builder. Last weekend the motor started misfiring and popping under load. Adjusted valves (all valve train looked fine), pulled/replaced plugs, checked timing, swapped coils (just in case), cap, rotor, module, plug wires all fine, checked/cleaned jets in carb and we checked for vacum leaks... When you snap the throttle on the accelertaion side it's popping/backfiring? We've even gone so far as to seperate the plug wires to see if there was a crossfire issue but nothing cures the problemo... Any thoughts/ideas/directions would be appreciated! Thanks!!!

Single carb?

Lot of engine for a single carb.

sounds like it's lean.

Yep sounds lean, my dual 36's did that till I up jetted. Pull a plug and look at the color. White is lean, also look at the tail pipe. The plug is the better of the two.

ON hard accel. does it die at the top of the rpm range.
