I have a stock 67 with a 113 905 205k distributor.I have it on tdc and the rotor pointing to the mark on the distributor housing.Will this be ok to static time it?

Beetle 1966-1967 * 1300/1500

Distributor: VW 113-905-205K/L, Bosch 0231 137 009/010 > 315-905-205B, 0231 137 031
Can Use: VW 113-905-205M, Bosch 0231 137 021, 113-905-205T, 0231 Spark Plug: W8AC
Timing Set At:: 7.5deg BTDC Static or @ 800-950rpm w/strobe w/vacuum hose disconnected and pluggedAdvance/Retard Range: Vacuum (Advance Only): 17-19deg @ 1.3 In. Hg, 24-28deg @ 3.2 In. Hg

You can static time, it but it is better with a light.

I tried with a light but my timing marks are way off to the left.It doesnt make a diffrence when I unplug my vacume line.Could my vacume valve be shot?If I static time it it runs fairly good.

Is your pulley what you think it is?

If you apply some vacuum to the vacuum canister, will it hold the vacuum?

I blew on the line and the little deal in the distributor moves.It doesnt stay when I stop blowing on it.So should it hold some pressure and stay then?

stop blowing and start sucking. :lol:

It's a vacuum canister, supposed to suck on it.

Ha ha very funny! So what does it meen when I unplug it and it doesnt change crap ](*,)

bad vac can?

With engine shut off, take distributor cap, rotor and cover off. plug one end of the hose into the vacuum can and suck on the other. As you doing that look at the advance plate to see if it moves. Then plug the hose (with vac still "in there") and see how long it will take for the advance plate to return back. If it holds 30 sec it's fine.

Thanks.If it is bad it will be hard to time right or would it ping under a load?

Well keep in mind that this is a "vacuum advance only" distributor and does not have a centrifical advance component.

If the vacuum can is leaking, it will not have much advance to it and will be a real pooch as you drive it.

Randy you can go the other way if your stop-hole is too large, the advance will grow. a 9/32-inch hole allows about 22 degrees advance. A 5/16 will give you 32 degrees advance. Each 1/32-inch change in the diameter of the hole of the stop will give you 10 degrees total crankshaft degrees. Try it Glenn :wink:
