Finally I can now reinstall the engine as the painting rust repairs are done. I'll clean it up this weekend as time allows and install the newly recovered seats too.

A quick painting question (since mine is going to going to the paint shop in October)....
I want to make sure that my painter doesn't clog up the "weep holes" a tthe bottom of the flat body panels. He does nthis for a living so he should know what he is doing but how do you keep those open?
I am just trying to prevent future rust. |

Let me ask; you did this outside with no covering of any kind? I'm just wondering. I need to paint two buses, and have been thinking of building a temporary paint booth.
Your's looks great. Congratulations! |

Randy,
Would it be possible to stick golf tees in the weep holes or maybe the plastic part of the cue tip? I don't think it is safe to say shaft on the samba. |

unless your painter is using some crazy technique (like a roller) drains and such should not be affected by painting. the only thing that would plug something like that up would be too much material (paint) or a run/sag on the panel. you should have nothing to worry about :D |

No, he will be spraying a single stage in his booth and will be doing interior and exterior.
I don't think it will be an issue, but I will ask him how he does it. |

| You could put some non-paintable silicone caulk in the holes, then after painting remove the silicone - I've done that a few times to keep holes from shrinking... |

Yes, I painted outside in the early evening when there isn't a breeze. Any bugs that do land brush off as its been in the high 70's when I paint and it dry fairly quickly.
I used a single stage PPG Concept Urethane, nice paint but pricey.
Lots of epoxy primer and sanding primer was used before the final coat as I sanded out and sandblasted rust spots. I didn't need to used much bondo as the body was fairly straight.
Its pretty easy to shoot the final color, its a bitch to get there doing all the prepwork. |
