Stock 1600 dual port motor, stock 34 pict 3 carb, switching to an electric fuel pump, questions:

Bought a "Mr. Gasket" fuel pump at autozone, It works but is LOUD. Is this normal?

Are these just loud or crap? Would a Facet one like everyone in the Vdub mags sell be a better choice? Holley, although expensive, is it the best?

Also, is a fuel pressure regulator needed with all electric fuel pumps?

And please, don't suggest i just run stock, I will be turboing my motor down the road and wish to go ahead and get the electric setup done, also I am running a complete MSD setup, so it won't fit. Thanks for your help.

go find some thick rubber and make a mount from that.

and yes, they are all VERY loud.

this is why we have loud exhausts

I installed a cb rotary in my bug and it isn't loud at all. Some slight humming when I start it up but otherwise nice. It is self regulated to right at 3lbs so no external is needed on my 2110....

is it hard mounted or insulated?

if its insulated, it will be much quieter, like a fish tank bubbler.

if you are looking for a REALLY quiet pump get a pierburg rotary ,beautiful pump well made quiet but not cheap

If you are gonna turbo it later get the holley with a reg that way you dont have to worry about that box pump being able to keep up

Mr.Gasket is to V-8 parts as Empi is to VW parts, el junko de Walley mart. When that cheap pump takes a dump on you far from home thats going to become one expensive fuel pump.

Buy a decent pump, inline rotary is the best along with a holley regulator and be done with it. Particularly if you plan to upgrade later on.

This is crappy pic, but a pair of 80's watercooled VW radiator mounts work perfect for insulating those type of pumps.

I'm using a Facet pump to run a fuel injected case in my Bus temporarily. Still a little noise, but much better than solid mounting.
