Beam painted, mounted up for mock-up purposes. Narrowed the leaves, just need to dimple the ends.

Spindles assembled and mounted up. Realized I forgot to weld on the steering damper mount.

Found out the OG steering box was toast (of course), so here's my spare:

I love dealing with nasty, greasy, dirty old-ass VW parts.

Spent a lovely fall day on Saturday at the local VW yard, B&C VW, pickin' parts, drinkin' beer, and eating chili. Got a front brake drum, Rabbit reservoir for my new dual circuit MC, wiper switch, Sapphire I to fill the dash hole, mirror arm, and more.

My single cab and Roy's awesome lifted bay.

My truck is always a comfortable gathering spot. Daniel's mean-muggin'.

Now to dress up the new drum, get the bearings installed and slap it on, and the front end will be done. Got the pan gasket installed the other day. Come springtime I hope to have things ready to re-assemble, then I can start the heater channel and engine work, among other things.

Damn....you caught me yawning. Must have been the 5:30am alarm clock to start making chili that morning. You need to extract that Turkis deluxe from the salvage yard and add to your collection...because it takes 3 VW's to make a family.

Not a very exciting update, but I got the new front drum painted and installed today, so the front end is now done!
Next, I have to start concentrating on wheels and tires so I can set this pan on the ground come spring.

Thats cool... no shop, no fancy tools just the desire to get it done
for not much money. Why isnt everyone doing this?

Got a bunch of piddly things done, including some headlight buckets assembled out of spare parts, and...
I have some surprises coming for the parking lights, involving a this: Arduino!

(Programmable LED's using pulse width modulation...I'm a nerd!)

There are a lot of savable cars in that yard. Owner is super cool - Come on down to Missouri, bring some Keystone Light and some cash, and take your pick!

Been a long, cold winter here in MO. Haven't got much done except a bit of work on the wheels.

I've also done a bunch of work on the seat frames & seat tracks, getting everything to slide nicely. Too cold to paint any more stuff, so I'm pretty much stalled until warmer weather.

Went and got the bug shell from where it has been sitting over the winter. It feels good to have it inside.

The rest is solid enough. Just ordered some heater channel sections and I already have the bottom plates. Time to get rust dust in my eyes and lungs!

These areas were a pain in the ass:

Quarter panel. (There was about 5 pounds of wet mouse nest crap behind this.) Won't need much filler at all, and should blend in with good ol' gray primer:

Front left wheel well is next:

Almost have this area done now. More pics to come.
