I'm a college student in Pittsburgh and I just heard about this event. I'm looking to bring my 1.8T Jetta MKIV (mostly stock with a few add-ons) and I was wondering what I should register for if I want to take it around the track just for a lap time? |

There is only Drag Racing at this event, not a round track.
If you wish to get some times going down the strip, then you will need to pay a test n tune fee of $15 payable at the gate. You may also show your car as well as do test runs. |

How many times will I be able to go down the strip for the $15 fee? And how long is the strip? |

You can go down as many times as you wish, when they call the test class to the lanes. Not sure if we will do round robin on that yet or not.
It is a 1/4 mile track, so you can run to the 1/8 mile or go to the 1/4. |

time Runs start at 11am
When they call test and tune to the lanes, you come then. No specific times for it, you just have to listen to the PA.

Pay close attention - this is how you handle getting your priorities in order without getting in trouble with the wife! Bribe her with shopping money or send her to the spa for the day. Works every time.
You get to do what you want & she's too happy to bitch about it. (NO woman in her right mind turns down a Spa day) The trick is YOU have to make the appointment for her - that way you guarantee the right date. She can't guilt you about going to the show without implicating herself for spending the day doing her thing ....... |

First, the weather was perfect!
Being K&L's first event at this track, they were a little short handed, so Darlene and I helped out some and I forgot to take but two pictures.
Show cars
This was about the best quality of show cars I have seen. The paint jobs, the detail, the quality of the cars themselves was off the chart. Cook's turbo split is just as nice as it shows in HotVW's. Mike Hillberry laid down a perfect color on his ghia.
The water cooled crowd was large and in high quality fashion. The interiors these people put together and the detail on their engines was top notch. This section of the VW's put just as much effort into this cars as anyone else. I was very impressed and throughly enjoyed looking at them. It impressed my wife enough she is prodding me to fix up my 1.8 turbo jetta. Just might do it.
Drag racing
I did not know it, but this is the former Keystone Dragway. For those interested, (or old enough like me), this fabeled track has seen the likes of TV Tommy Ivo, Young Don Garlits and old Don Garlits, Shirley Mouldowny, Sox & Martin, Don Purdom. Joe Amoto, John Force, Kenny Bernstien, Jungle Jim Liberman and Jungle Pam  , ran through the Gasser Wars, saw the first stages of FX (factory Experimental that evolved into Funny Car). This track is just about the nicest old track I have been to. The restrooms were top notch and clean, the eating facilities are the best I have ever been to at any track. I cannot wait to get my drag beetle done to race here next year.
I only got to see the first round of Time Trials. The Squirm'n German made an impressive first pass, not where he wanted (don't know if he got it there through the day), but nice looking drag car, period. The water cooled cars blew me away. One ran 12.34 in street trim on the 1/4. Bring on the Z06's for battle. A lot of the water pumpers ran their cars on Test and Tune runs throughout the day, was fun to watch and hear.
Swap Meet
I don't know about the rest, but I scored here! I got a crank trigger ignition setup and a beautiful set of fiberglass Type 1 doors for the drag car. One swapper had a hugh load of old sheet metal that was in almost rust free shape. ACME brought some examples of their work including a REAL NICE Sterling or Avenger on a tube chassis. Two FG buggies for sell, some oval parts, some split parts and some WWII era parts were there. Engines, trannies, headers, wheels, stroker cranks, HP cams or more. New part Venders made the run too.
Well, I will shut up here with these two pictures I did take. The first one is a shot of the middle of the swap area with a FG Buggy for sale that is identical to the one I just sold.
This next one was a "half to take the picture" picture. This guy bought this real nice rag top section and hauled it in his 911 Targa.
Hope to see you there next year! |

| Thanks so much for the update. The only reason we weren't there this time was because I'm recovering from surgery. You'll definitely see us there next year - Keith & Kathy do a supurb job with their events & I hate when we have to miss one. |
