If you are running the above wheels, post your car.
Looking for ideas.

Lloyd, are those the ones Phil Hooker had?
If so, they sure cleaned up nice...
sorry I couldn't make the picnic last weekend, had to work.
I think I remember some doofus did a story on restoring some Cal-Parts in VW Trends, right before he defected over to Hot VWs....
(I think it's still on the website www.vwtrendsweb.com.....)

Hi Dave Yes the Cal Parts wheels are the ones that he had -(thanks Philip !) I did refinish them- a lot of hours . I decided to polish the outer lip (scratches) and leave the inside machine work visible, a lot of time with polish and soft brass brush . ( I'll put the fronts on after I put the Old Speed 4"narrowed drop spindle beam on) as to the Humbugs VW club picinic it was a beautiful day and hot- almost 70 degrees. We could of used you there- lots of trophies were handed out for the judged car show portion. Nice to see all the VWs and talk to friends. Next year... Lloyd

The dark Green 1960, in those photos you posted, was built by Chris Davis, of (I think) Vista, CA. He used to come to the "Sunday Morning VW Gearhead Breakfast" in Escondido.
I *think* he sold it, but I'm not 100% sure on that, his name on the samba was cdavis1960, or cdavis1949, or something like that.
Lloyd, yeah, I know Pierson Park is a good time, I made it a year or so back, and had a terrific time.
A week from this coming saturday is the car show at the Harbor up here, it would be cool if you could make it....I just met Al, the guy from Trinidad that has the gold '58 for sale on the samba, he was up surfing South Beach and Endert's Beach.

Yeah Dave, that is Chris' '60. It was sold thru Old Bug. I don't know where it went or what he got for it. The first picture I posted was taken in '05 at In-N-Out off San Marcos blvd. You were there too.

Beatiful car. But he never got the recognition it deserved.

What a trip, seeing the Oval in it's old stomping grounds....and the BRM'ed Single Cab in the background was mine, too!!!

Yup, my 60 ragtop is Southern England now, including the ET's. The new owner promptly took them off and installed Ercos. I don't blame him as he installed a much more potent drivetrain and is going to be hitting the track with it. I don't think I would trust 40 year old two piece wheels either. :?

Also, I had originally installed a 2 inch narrowed beam with CB dropped spindles and discs, but because of the positive offset on the wheels, when
I dropped the jack down, the tires rested on the fenders! I eventually went with a Franklin's 3" beam and stock spindles with AC Industries discs (zero offset) to get things right. I sure miss that car, now all I have are beaters...

Chris, what is in store now?

I'm rolling in my 73 Thing wearing original paint (with rust, dents, etc) that has been completely restored mechanically. It is my take the kids to the beach car (did that today!). It will not really get fixed up cosmetically as I don't want top worry about it in public places. I also just got a 59 ragtop baja that still wears its three piece front end, uncut dash, original numbers matching body and pan, perfectly rust free and straight. I'm going to build a late 70's style baja complete with chocolate brown tuck and roll interior and green (what else :D ) paint. It will be running IRS rear and 6 inch wider front beam and the 2276 w/ street eliminator heads and dual 48 webers that is waiting in my tool room. I promised the wife I'd finish the Thing first before starting the baja, and thats after replacing the kitchen and floors this year...

'55 Rag on ET's.... Finally got to drive it for the first time tonight!!

Ill get better photos in the day. Still needs quite a bit of work, but getting there. The reason there is only a few cars here with these wheels is because they are not an easy bolt on!!!

Ain't that the truth!

What did you do to get them to fit?

I tried to bolt up my Cal-Parts on a 5" beam. Still needs to be narrower.
