Motor on the kitchen table?? You must have a VERY understanding wife! Does she have a sister?

T4rail Wed Aug 06, 2008 5:22 pm

that is a clean rail now. what are the specs on the rear arm?
how does it run with that carb?
very nice...good work

gilbequick Wed Aug 06, 2008 5:29 pm

Nice! I love to see the rail buggies, there's just something extra cool about them. I'm on #2 myself :D

Is your rail finished up now? How does it run? What engine, how much hp/torque?

I say who cares if the wife complains. Women will always find something to complain about! Good for you for being a man and using half of what's already yours!

Ohh yeah, and more pics!

i built this originally 2 1/2 years ago when i was single and no garage. but now im engaged and have a garage. i built an 1835 cc and all stock suspension, w/ a built bug trans. i dont remember the specs on the arms as i built them about 6 months ago. i made front arms 2 1/2 x 1 1/2. the rear 3x3. kept the jigs i made also for future needs. the carb and intake setup is nice. although im going to try and make a new intake with half the length runners this one currently is.

those rear arms look awesome

it is now finished again for the second time with all the new modifications i have now. im trying to find all the pics from the past 2 1/2 years and post some random ones up from the build. ive beent going on this site since the day i bought this thing waiting to post these pics. and oddly i have only about 30 posts because i joined back in febuary finally and always have found everything using the search button.

my temp plate from last fall that i just took off and got a real plate now.

new shock mounts

my front end

this is how its sitting now

i will toss in some more as i find them. the wife says sandrail done spend time her. will get more up later lets here some feed back on it. thanks to everyone on here as this would not be what it is today if it werent for this site.

i put a 3 rib in i got at a swap meet never trust anyone 3rd was grinding hard and lost it a mile down the road. now theres a 5 rib in it.

second time around it got all new suspension and steering. disc brakes, new flywheel scat 12.5 , kep stage 1 pp, sach sprung disc, and multiple changes

Love teh picts of the rail--it's come a LONG way! I way eye balling your steering rack setup, is that a pinto rack? I would love to see some more info in how you modified it to work! I'm gong to be building up my 3rd rail, when I get back from IRAQ and that looks like an ideal setup!

Mustang78 Fri Aug 08, 2008 12:38 pm

nice rail! who makes that whole exhaust setup? and is it supposed to be higher on one side?(looking from the rear, the left side long tube seems higher..)

you have no idea how happy that makes me. it almost brings a tear to my eye.

redcavyguy Fri Aug 08, 2008 4:17 pm

HamburgerBrad.....those sprint stars are not custom they are 15x10 with 3 1/2 b.s. on them stamped lemmery? lemmer? made in west germany. i originally used them at first blasted and painted. but now i put disc brakes on the rear and got lucky finding 2 4-lug wheels that matched the front. cleaned them up and painted.

the rack is a 2000 chevy cavalier rack. i just made some brackets to hold the angle i wanted to go to the steering wheel and the u-joint. i works pretty good use the u-joint off the cavalier and tie it into your steeing. its almost a straight shot to my drivers seat. i might make some new mounts because when i get rid of the 165s up front and go with a larger tire i'll let the torsions down and try to keep bump steer under control. so far its not bad at all. also this is a 6" over beam so i dont know how it would react with a stock length beam. i did not have to cut the tie rods for length at all. i reamed the spindles to accept the cavalier tie rod ends. it wasnt very much.

the exhaust is bug pack 1 1/2 ceramic coated. there not as shinny as the first pic 2 years ago but they still look great. i dont know why its higher on one end over the other. are all bug packs like that?
heres some more it took closer views of the rack and other stuff.
you will see on the top at the windshield theres alumin. foil. im making a pod to hold two 6.5 speakers out of fiberglass and im making some templates for a body out of cardboard. so i can transfer to some sheet alumin. finally some vinyl for the top that i can snap on the tubes if i need shade or protection. then it will be done for now. momma says gotta save for the wedding. enjoy. thanks evan

redcavyguy, what is that white insert in your fuel tank? I have a tank with a 2" hole that looks similar to yours, but I can't find what I need to use a regular gas cap.
