O.K. I had to get my 69 bug to pass emissions the other day, and I had to lean it out pretty good, and also been running it with no air box. It ran good all week, and then this morning I got up and it didn't really want to run for a couple of miles then it seemed like a fire got started up under it and took off!!
Anyways did the same just a while ago but never took off, just puttered to the store. Seems like I messed the plugs up, or just got some trash in the carb?? Seems like it is running on 2 plugs, when I mash it down the whole car shakes me to death :P

Jets. Main, idle, and air. Running the car without an aircleaner will allow dirt to enter the carburetor and engine. If I were you, I'd get a rebuild kit for the carburetor and put an aircleaner with a filter on it before running it again. If you have a fuel filter that hasn't been changed in a while, R & R it and the fuel lines at the same time. |

Also running without an air cleaner, think of all the crap in the air (like dust and dirt) that you're sucking down your carb, and into the cylinders of your engine. |

| If the problem re-occurs pretty soon run some carb cleaner through the intake. Sometimes you can avoid a rebuild... might not be professional but it works for me. |
