note as NOSParts listed, the BD welded nuts are squared
whereas the later ones are rounded on the corners

| It was the dash tabs that I needed to check on. I thought all flat top dash tabs were the same, but I had been told barndoor ones were different to 55 on buses. Unless anyone can tell me different then they're the same. The only thing I can think of being slightly different is that they don't have a curve to their base as the barndoor 'dash' is flat compared to later buses. It's proving difficult to find a genuine safari barndoor to check as these parts are easily swapped out |

thats interesting.never heard of the tabs being different but its always possible. i just looked in my parts book which is mainly post bd but does have bd parts in it. it does tell that the outer(tall) tabs are 20-117xxx and later but the inner(shorter) tabs there is no indication of year change. i was thinking maybe they were taller than later? but i just looked at my 53 which im pretty confident i have post bd tabs and nothing looks out of place. all parts line up fine, no large gaps from latch to tab.
be interesting to see proof of any difference. |

So the og brackets I have are for later buses (with chamfered corners) and I think I have a 64-67 one eyed duck..... Anyone got any pics of the late duck?
Anyone got a source for the slider rivets and the fibre washers?
Does anyone make barndoor length wiper disengagers? I was going to buy some new ones and modify them |

hopefully soon dvd will make the disconnects as that is what we have been discussing.as for the fiber washers check your local dealer...they have a N part number and are still available through the dealer here.ooops did i just let a secret out?i bought a bunch a while back and there was still a bunch in stock.
anyone have a nice set of four catches that are not worn out and wiggley that they want to sell for a good cause i could use a set.p.m. me if so. |

i would check with david(NOSPARTS) on all acounts. as gator said, he is working on making disconnects and i have seen him selling the fibre washers on ebay. i think he could also show you the difference of the ducks. he makes both styles as well as some other nice rubber products.
the rivets you can get from wolfsburgwest or david may also have them. ive seen a few sources for them. |

| well...scotty the answer you needed came yesterday when i atempted to install some outer(tall)dash tabs and the screw holes didnt line up.it looks like the bottom of the tabs are shorter to allow the tabs to have enough room on the dash to keep from apppearing to be falling off the dash or hang over the edge... |

You can see in the following pics that it looks like barndoor dash tabs are completely different to later buses, the top looks like it has convex curve to the top of it rather than being flat or having a concave curve like the 55 on tabs
I can't make out the tabs near the centre window bar or the passenger side but the tab on the drivers side clearly has a curved top

so according to these photos and what is written in my later parts book, maybe this makes sense...
the inner/center(shorter) seems to be the same as a later domed dash tab which in my book just has a part number and its description, whereas the outer(taller) tab is obviously different than a later domed tab. also in my book it has its part number and description but also reads "from chassis 20-117 902,making it barndoor/post BD specific. the shorter one does not have any chassis cutoff #s. |

I got some other photos from someone with og safaris and it looks like the short tab has the same dims as a later one, but has the slightly different shaped top like the long one monkeyspinner posted above. I haven't seen too many later flat top dash tabs but the ones I have seen have perfect radiused corners where as the barndoor ones seem to have a slight corner to them, and a slight curve to the top. The later ones I saw were flat along the top edge.
I think the short one monkeyspinner posted is a later one, it looks like it has a flat top compared to the short one in the pics I posted |

Maybe they changed at some point during Barndoor production... mines an early jan 55 so could they have changed to the later design by then maybe?? |
