Who's notch is this?

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Volkswagen Type 3, properly referred to as the Volkswagen 1500 and later the Volkswagen 1600, was a range of small cars from German manufacturer Volkswagen (VW).

The range was originally launched in 1961 in two varieties: the Notchback with a notchback saloon body, and the Karmann Ghia 1500 (popularly known as the Type 34 Karmann Ghia) with an coupé body. The first Variant (popularly known as the Squareback) with an estate body followed in 1962 (VW still continues to name all its station wagon model variations Variant). The Fastback, a fastback coupé version, arrived in 1966. A convertible was announced with the original models, but did not enter production.

The Type 3 was introduced to diversify Volkswagen's product range beyond the Type 1 (Beetle), the Karmann Ghia, and the Type 2 (Bus). The Type 3 was designed to allow Volkswagen to make a more sophisticated car while maintaining much of the engineering from the Type 1. Though available to much of the world, the Type 3 line was not exported to the United States through Volkswagen of America until the 1966 model year, when the Squareback and Fastback were added to their line-up

I think the wiki needs some help....

my guess is it belongs, or belonged, to one of the 1500 club members. If i had to take a wild guess, I'd bet on either Gizmobob, Jason (notchboy) or dave. reason being is its decked out in accessories, and is at the VW classic parking lot. Jack and Pedro's look too different to be either of those...

It's a '64 that is very incorrectly pieced together. I've seen it at the Classic a few times.

PS the one next to it is very correct and OG and teh guy in the green shirt is a emeritus member of the 1500club :D

That is one of the worst cars to pick out of a VW Classic line-up. It's incorrect all over. It looks pretty though.

shows how much i know about early 1500 notchbacks

i retract my earlier statement. if it is so incorrect, i highly doubt any 1500 club member would step forward to claim it.

Yes, the one next to it is Jack's car. I recognize the slightly off color RF fender.

From that pic all I see incorrect is the front hood trim.... what am I missing?

It is pretty, like Ev said.

Quick pass...

Wrong:
Wheels (probably)
Tires
Interior
Belt line chrome trim missing
Hood beak
Windshield seal
Hubcaps
Side marker lenses (I think)
Paint color

Slowlow Mon Aug 11, 2008 4:58 pm

Ahh, yea... I did catch the cal rubber and no trim too.

Those look to be 66-7 seats

Jack, that's you in the back seat? You're tiny, Do you sit on your Workshop Manual when you drive? :P

But I have to give credit to the driver, how he slid sideways right into that parking space.

funny... i see a car that is done to the owner's taste... oh and it isn't a fasty

other than that... i like most everything 'cept the whitewalls, but that's just a personal aversion to white walls in general.

Besides the wrong mustache trim, I see the following (assuming its a 64/65 S model):

- No side trim
- Cal windshield rubber
- Wrong rims (should be solid, not solid)
- Wrong hubcaps I think.. those look like flat bug caps
- Looks like black interior, which would be incorrect

I'm sure there is more. I also think I see russel through the drivers side quarter window. :)
