| My dad still has it on his 75 La Grande with no plans of it going away anytime soon. We both love it and it's easy to work on. I'm planning on buying my wife a vert next year, 75-79 with stock FI still on it. People fear what they do not understand and they can feel free to contact me to give or let me purchase their FI parts. |

| I still have F.I. on my (currently being restored) 1979 super beetle. And no, I'm not in California although the car is from Cali. Who wouldn't want the extra power and efficiency that FI delivers? FI parts aren't that expensive either, esp. when compared to buying dual solex's or webers! |

The reason many get changed to carbs, is because the person working on it does not want to spend the time in the learning curve figuring out what is actually wrong with the car.
They always want to blame the FI when it is actually an ignition problem, or just a vacuum leak. |

| Ok you FI guys feel free to correct me if im wrong, but when it comes to boring and stroking these things for max power, I don't think the stock FI can keep up. Thats the nice thing about carbs and the appeal to some. If you go bigger on your engine, you can always just re-jet and tune the carbs to match (to some extent). I agree they are expensive when compared to FI parts, but once you get them set up, they are easy to dial in/tune and can be modified to changes in your engine. Just my .02 |

I toyed with dumping my FI on my former '79 for a minute or two. However, Randy in Maine talked sense into me. Glad he did. Really, you just can't beat it.
When it comes to big motors, I understand the stock FI will keep up with a 1776. Don't know about anything bigger.
I run dual Delortos on my buggy. I love that too. However, sync'n Dels on a buggy is easy. Fumbling around under a rear decklid would not be as fun.
In a nutshell, the stock FI was pretty darn advanced for its time and continues to do a very good job. I have it on my '78. Had to just order a dual relay for it, but short of that, that's just about the only thing I've ever had fail on either FI Bug (failed on both, but also replaced the thermotime switch and cold start valve to be safe on the '79). Like mentioned above, vac lines are often the cause of FI woes, so it they are old, then I'd recommend replacing the works and be done with it. |

| After being told that the last Beetle I ever wanted to own was one with the FI system on it, the last 3 Beetles I have picked up were '75 FI's. One Standard, one La Grande and one Standard parts car. All of them have the intact FI system. I have no plans on getting rid of the system and picked up the parts car specifically for the intact FI system. In driving my La Grande, it seems to be peppier than carbed but I haven't driven it enough to do a MPG comparison. |

230000 miles on the injection system o my '79 with only a few minor issues over the years. When properly cared for, they are very dependable.

Over the last 25 years I've replaced two injectors, a couple of intake boots, and just last year I replaced the fuel pump.

Original FI on my 1978 vert with 117000 on it. Runs excellent.
The car is unfortunately not being driven right now, due to some front suspension work I need to do, and don't have the cash at the moment... |
