My beetle will stall if left out of gear for too long, even when the engine is hot, and this makes junctions/roundabouts etc quite tricky! i know this could be a number of things, but i was jus wondering if there is anything i can do myself to try and fix it?

I would start by checking what you are idling at, and adjust the carb as needed.

A little more info on the car would help too... carb, dizzy, etc

i have a similar problem with my bug. after driving my bug for a while, the engine would sometimes stall when i push in the clutch, and let it coast or slow down. really weird. the engine would just stop. no slowing of idle whatsoever. thank god it starts again after a few cranks.

i'm running a single port 1600, brosol 30/31 carb, stock single vacuum distributor.

Yer it just take dropping it into second and bump starting it to get going, or somehow having 3 feet to use all the pedals at the same time! but yer my engine set up is the same, can anyone help?

I had this issue for a while with my bug when I got it.. 1600 dual port. 34pic carb. - I was playinf with carb and found that mine was actually an electrical problem..

I found that when the engine got warm . the wire running from the coil to the fuel cutoff siloniod had a small break in it.. just enough that the valve was opening and closing constantly. so the car would shut off when I would push in the clutch after rides on the highway or times when it got heated.

once I changed the wire and cleaned all the terminals. The problem has never happened again. No it runs perfect, you can push in clutch coming off the highway and it just drops to idle and stays smooth.

the wire from the coil going where? where's the solenoid?

is this the electromagnetic idle cutoff thingamajig?
