i am puting a system in my 73 and i have two 12" subs in an off the self box. I am leaving the back seat out and i was wondering if anybody knows of any "custom" sub boxes for beetles that may be ordered online, or should i just take it to a stereo place of try my hand at fiberglass.

2 12s might be overkill in a beetle. I bought a pre-fab box for 2 10s that fits perfectly with the seat up and they face directly at the window.

The answer is "D"...none of the above. You could build a nice vanilla, rectangle box to go in the rear luggage area, put your seat back in, and put a rear deck across from the top of the back seat to the window. The subs would be well hidden and you'd still have seating for 4.

My dad and I built one that fits perfectly behind the back seat. I don't know of any that can be ordered offline, but it was not hard to build. It has my two 10" Subs facing the rear of the back seat, with my amp on top in the middle, and two 6" x 9" speakers to either side of the amp. I don't know how much it cost us, but the carpet to cover it was around $12 total, and the wood I don't think was over $30.

We're going to be building another box soon for my brother's baja, and he wont have a back seat. I can copy our plans down for that set up, (he has two 12"'s as well) and put them out here. I can copy the plans down for my box as well, as I have a '72. They might be helpful for anyone making their own box.

I'll take some pictures of mine when I get home from work.

mmm No such thing as overkill. I have 2 12's in my Ghia... it's tasteful. 8)

You're going to need speaker specs in order to make a box with the correct amount of air space. Too much air space = crappy sound. Not enough air space could mean blown speakers.

The box I have could easily be converted to have one or two subs installed. I'll get out my pad and pencil this week and get the drawings done and post them on here. The box has to come out for painting anyway.

i dont use my sub for crazy bass or rap music just small bass for grerat sounding music im not much into the rap or techno so not to worryed about the space inside the box just need a place to mount it nicly
thanks for the help

I have 2 12" subs in a pre-made box that fits behind the rear seat. Each sub requires something like 1.5 cubic ft. The box provides the 1.5 cubic ft as required. And can blast you out of the car. But isn't that noticable outside the car to me.

BTW I run an 800W amp.

beetles are pretty sturdy cars when it comes to rattle and such, definatly not a honda civic when it rattles. Ive got it up all the way and there is not much rattle.

well everybody is entitled to thier opinions, but when it comes to sound, i dont think there is such a thing as overkill, and as for no back seat, i have reason for that. i am in the military and often times have alot of gear to haul into work.

I wanted some bass without shaking the car apart. I found an inexpensive box on ebay. Not a great brand but puts out enough bass for me. Its a Pyle PLQB-10. Single 10" sub and the it leave room for an amp and tools behind the rear seat.

I think the perfect sub enclosure for a beetle is an 8" bazooka. It fits perfect behind the back seat and leave you enough room for an amp and gives just enough clean bass.

2 12's? sure if you already have em. but really all you need is a single 10 with the correct rms wattage being supplied to it and a box built to spec for that particular sub.

here is a pic of my setup, single 10 inch polk momo if a custom built box to exactly the manufacturer's specs, .66 cu ft. this pic is older though, I have painted the box to match the interior, and installed a capacitor and amp in the same area (to the left of the box)
