View original topic: Distributor clamp bolt broke

So I finally bought a timing light to check where my 009 was at... Turned out to be more than 35 degrees. Turned it back down to 28, hoping that makes it run a little better.
Then as I go to tighten the nut on the clamp, I hear a snap and half the bolt comes out with the nut! I imagine there's a bit of a burr on the end of the bolt still inside the clamp that is keeping it from coming out easily, my question now is can I just put a new bolt/nut in the clamp, or should I just replace the whole clamp with a new one? Even better if the bolt can be replaced without pulling everything out.
Figures this would happen after the local VW shops close for the day. On the plus side, I do have a disc brake kit to keep my busy until I can find the right part for the distributor :)

On some clamps the bolt is captive, but i'm sure you can get it out. It's just a M6 bolt and you should be able to get one at any decent hardware store.

If you replace the clamp, get a genuine VW. The aftermarket ones are crap and bend easily.
