| guys ...trying to install "new" cv axels on my 69 bug....the axels came one packed with grease and no clamps on the boots, the other came with clamps and no grease....typical huh  im having a hard time coming up with the clamps for the wide end of axel boot. on the oem ones it looks like the rubber boot is under the metal housing. should i try to get the rubber under the lip, or just clamp it with the band? any idea whitch size to use? know its probably in the manual, but i appreciate the diversity here. thanks Britt |

SEND THEM BACK TO VENDOR
The vendor sent you crap, the only way to stop crappy vendors is to reject thier shit.
The CV boot is an assembly the boot is cripped to the metal to seal it.
If you jury rig some BS solution and the grease sprays out your new CV's will fail.
Don't put up with crappy vendors, send that crap back! |

Hiya 69,
Take a hard look at the boot that needs a clamp. Is the rubber boot itself new or might it be an old one?
Reason I ask is this.............when VW originally installed OEM CVs they used a rubber boot (very high quality by the way) which was attached to the metal plate housing via a clamp - just like you are describing. It may very well NOT be crap if it is original. The boot on the other end of your halfshaft in which the rubber boot and metal housing plate are an integral unit is the replacement - not OEM.
But as suggested the vendor should not have sold this halfshaft without the proper clamp and should have checked to make sure both CVs were fully greased. I'd take it back also. |
