Couple quick questions / clarifications:
1) For a ball joint front end; looks like Monroe part #MA756. Can anyone confirm that?
2) (this question makes me feel stupid) the average price is about $69.. is that each or for the pair? Summit Racing's website is confusing, and Autozone and Checker both have websites that make me want to kill myself.

Someone has to have bought these before and knows the answers....

(Edit: If you're reading this thread for the first time you're going to see a lot of confusion on part numbers in the first couple pages. Do NOT order your shocks until you read further. It seems Monroe's pictures on the website didn't always match the correct model #'s. Monroe MA700 does indeed fit the ball joint front ends, as well as Monroe MA756. As you will read, one model is tall and one is short, but both do fit just fine.)

Yeah, I knew I needed the one with the threaded rod on top. I keep squinting at the pictures on summit racing website to see which part # has the right picture. I think it's #MA803 now.

What about the price? each or per pair?... I guess since it's not 2am now I could just call them...


(EDIT) I did in fact just contact Summit. The correct part number is Monroe MA700 incase anyone reading this wants to order a pair, and the price is $69.95 per pair. :wink:

I'll double confirm this when they arrive and I install them.

I didn't read you post on time about the MA700's. They arrived yesterday and were a perfect fit. They sure don't look like that picture. I have a feeling those photos on Summit's website are jumbled. The shocks I got are black too? So not even close to the picture.

They took about 45 mintues to install, didn't even have to take the wheels off. I hooked them up to a old 12v bicycle tire pump that I canabalized and mounted under the hood.

may not lay beam with those... depends on the compressed length... i use the MA777's... they are longer than stock shocks to give me the travel i wanted... it did require extending the shock towers.

"compressed length" is the key word there. They are super short, but still leave the beam about 3/4 of an inch off the ground when deflated. I have to double check to see if it's not something obvious that's keeping it off the ground, because there is a definite "clunk" when everything stops dropping. I have some pretty thick spacers that I can use to push them down a little more (there's at least 3/4 inch of exposed thread at the top of each shock and probably a little more). If it ends up that the shocks are still too tall then I may get crazy and shorten the towers. :twisted:

if the shocks are too tall, shortening your towers will not help.... you will just make it bottom earlier(higher from ground)...

yes. :oops: I guess I meant lengthen.
If I unbolt the shocks (or remove them), and pull the grub screws out of the adjusters on my beam, shouldn't it hit the floor when I drop the jack? I think something is preventing it from getting all the way down. I've heard of guys running no shocks at all, so it must've been their adjusters that kept them from dragging.
I'm going over to the ball joint lowering sticky to see if I can learn something....

this is as low as she'll go with out stretching the shock towers. Since my welding skills are way, way below average I think I can live with it like this. :wink:

So what was the Model that you used on your bug? I think i might do this to my but for front and back. I will also hook up a old caddy air pump For adjustability anywere. Could you take a picture of what they look like mounted. Thanks for your creative ideas! and the 69 is looking good.

thanks for the compliments. I used Summit Racing part #MON-MA700MM

$69 for the pair and I didn't even take the wheels off to install them. I run them at about 100psi which gives me a pretty level ride height and plenty of comfort. The side-by-side pictures above are at about 140psi which is pretty goofy to drive around, unless you're really into the oldschool gasser hotrods (which I actually am :wink: ). I haven't run them all the way up to the 150psi Monroe says they can handle. I don't want to blow anything out.

(Edit: I'm not running this set up anymore, I switched to Monroe Air Max part # 756 which has a shorter compressed length. All my bushings are now in the correct places)

I thought the clearance would just come naturally over time, as the metal gets ground away on the ball joints and the rim! :shock:

But seriously, now that I can adjust the ride height they don't rub when I'm driving. The pictures there are aired up almost all the way, so the back of the joints would rub, and when they are down all the way the joint rotates forward and the front rubs, but when they are at about 80-100psi (which is now my driving height) they don't rub at all. Not even turning full lock.

Hay, any ideas on how I can get that last 5/8 inch of drop without welding anything? I thought about widening the mounting hole at the top of the shock tower. Then the curved dome top of the shock would sit up in there further, but that seems sketchy. Of course my doors do say "Medicore Morotsports"....
