being new to the vw world, i've been able to get my single port motor operating. can anyone help with what i need exactly to upgrade this motor to a basic 1600cc?

short list is new head assemblies , jugs & pistons, intake manifold, carb, and probably a new distributor. I'm sure there's more to it than that, but that's a start. Might do better to research a rebuilt engine, or find a good used one here on Samba, or Craigslist in your area.

DP heads / Intake end castings / intake center section...... everything else can remain the same...

...I doubt you need to buy another distributor or carb..

but depending on the carb you got you may need to get an adapter

... BUT if the 1500sp is running fine... just roll it... put the $ toward something else on the car.. like front disc brakes

depends on what you want. Do you want more horsepower? then you will probably want to go up to 1600 and DP. If you want gas mileage, as I do (1600 SP motor), then just get it tuned up and go.

Like RattieFattie said, save up for brake upgrades, or a bigger motor.

actualy the DP and SP tested the same in MPG the it just deppends on how you drive it.

Interesting. I wish I had another 69 with a DP engine and could test this theory.

and I agree, even with a SP, if I stick my foot into it enough, mileage will suffer.
