71 super beetle, stock IRS transaxle..i was at the race track, rolled through the water box and went to burnout and heard a loud pop and clunking noises right after...thought it was an axle, but it isint, my next thought was front mount and nose cone? but that all looks fine, mount is still intact and car still goes through all the gears. :?:
when taking it off the trailer today, my father noticed the whole motor torquing up on the right side everytime i release the clutch..even though everything looks fine the motor still moves a bunch everytime i release the clutch. im stumped and cannot figure out what the problem is? did anyone else ever have this problem or have a clue what it is?
(i have a solid rear tranny mount and mid strap) |

| If I'm reading this corerectly, you're saying the entire engine twists to the right? That sounds like a broken tranny mount, or possibly something's up with the frame horns. Did you have a traction bar installed at the time this happened? I ask because my old roomate's engine on his 66 Bus moved all over the place, but it wasn't because anything was broken. A Bus is a lot of weight to move, so the engine dropped like 2" everytime he applied power. Maybe your engine dropped down a bit, and hit/broke something? |

no it is not a tranny mount after i posted this, i jacked up the car, spun 1 tire and the other one did not spin, and the right tire gets caught in only 1 spot which would mean the spider gears are broken or somethin with the ring and pinion is messed up.. now i need to take off the side cover and see the carnage and go from there.. |

haha yeah i know its a definite bummer, but i knew it was gonna be only a matter of time if im throwin 15lbs of boost with 265/50/15 rear tires and a stock tranny
im just glad it lasted that long, and long enough for me to get an 8.80 pass in the 1/8mile haha. and that was only on 11lbs of boost.
but i got a trany lined up, just a rebuilt IRS with a 4.12 ring a pinion. nothin special |
