I just replaced my cylinders and pistons. Everything runs! Sweet!

Now I'm off to adjust the carb. It is running really rich. The pistons and spark plugs were just toasted black.

I've never messed with any carb before. I'm feeling pretty intimidated. I know it's to mix the fuel and air in the cylinder, but that's about it.

I looked at the carb, did some searching on here, but can't really understand what I have.

on the rear of the carb (rear of car) I found these numbers:

32 36 dfav 23 A L1
On the left side are two numbers also (26 and 27), but I'm thinking they don't refer to the type.

So...

1 What does PICT stand for. and do I have one of those?

2 How do I adjust it? Or more importantly, where do I go to find this info.

Thanks!

One more thing. I keep reading in the Muir about automatic choke, and a wire that's supposed to go from the carb to the coil, I believe. Is this obsolete, because I have an aftermarket carb, or am I missing something?

you have a weber progressive carb. from what you wrote it needs to be rejetted. Aircolled net sells jets.

Think I answered one of my questions

"The linkage setups for air-cooled VW work on both the DFAV/DGAV and the DFEV/DGEV carbs. The "E" is for electric choke and the "A" is for water choke. Make sure you get an electric choke as hot water is hard to come by in an air-cooled vehicle."

So, basically someone put the wrong carb on?
