first thing is try adjusting the steering box free play
if u pop up the little round inspection plate in front of the fuel tank u will see the adjuster nut
check and see how much is sticking thro the locking nut
the more sticking out the more adjustment u have left
u can tighten that up to take some of the slack out
but its had to get a good compromise
it may be tight in the middle then loose when u turn
thats why im converting mine to rack and peanut |

| X2 on the steering box. Also pull the tank and have someone rock the wheel back and forth while you check the universal joint on the steering column, then crawl under and rock it again while you check the ball joints, tie rod ends and bushings. |

| I've seen some rebuilt original steering boxes. Those may be cheaper. |

| I went ahead a purchase a new steering box. The cost was about $40 more than a rebuild. To me it was worth the $$$ but the pricetag still hurt. |
