Has anyone had problems with stock Brosol fuel pumps failing? My '70 broke down on me on my way to work Tuesday night. Felt like it was running out of gas and then just died...wouldn't crank anymore. I initially suspected an ignition problem and when inspecting the distributor, coil, etc. we found the pin on the fuel pump had worked it's way out the back (front of car) of the pump...I KNEW it felt like I was running out of gas!
The local shop told me they'd seen a couple of others do the same thing. Anyone else had a problem with them?
This was a genuine Brosol with maybe 1200 miles on it.

It's a well know defect.

The older pumps had a longer pin with circlips.

Happened to me at like 2 on the morning on a sunday driving home from a party. It had about the same amount of miles on it.

Well, I'll sure be keeping an eye on it now...
Are the style with the c-clips still available?

I've had my Brosol pump for 12 years now. Sometimes you get a dud in the bunch.

Have you looked in the classifieds?

You can jury-rig a fix using a coat hanger and zip tie.

yeah i had two die on me in like 2000 miles of driving.

finally got a version that had the C-clip on the end instead of the really retarded press fit dowel. what a stupid design. both of the ones that failed had the dowel pin walk almost completely out. amazingly enough, this only caused my bug to quit on me one time, and i managed to drive it to the mechanic with the pin making no contact with the internals of the pump lol.

I have the original fuel pump, the one on the left in the picture from Mnussbau. I have a leak coming from the Screw on the top of the pump, will it do this if i have my line from my carb to the pump is faceing up making gas remaining in the line going back to the pump? (Rebuilding Carb atm hoping to have car running)
