Check out the photo of the floor pan on this Ghia listed on ebay. Look at the passenger side. It looks like someone pop riveted or screwed a piece of sheet metal over the existing pan and then covered it with bondo/fiberglass.

That made the car more aerodynamic.

BID UNTIL IT HURTS...
It hurts just looking at the hackness of that car. |

| The only Positive you can say about the seller is that at least they put a photo of the pans. Imagine bidding on this, going to pick it up and finding that mess? |

Yeah, I'd be pretty pissed. It's a New Jersy car, so there's probably been road salt in it's past. If the the passenger side pan had to be replaced, I wonder whats under the band aid on the drivers side... |

I personally wouldn't bid at all on it unless it was less than $500. Not that it's not worth a lot more, that's just what it would take for me to bid site unseen. Cars from the north east get eaten up pretty bad by the harsh winters and road salt. The car's been painted, looks like it was ravenna green before, who knows what's under the paint... |

X2.
It looks like a mess and the ad sounds like the seller is throwing around a lot of BS. The shoddy pan repair is indicative of shoddy work elsewhere. Of course there are always exceptions and perhaps the pan repair is the exception.
You would need to give the car a thorough inspection first to determine condition. Otherwise you have to assume everything is crap and figure that if you got it for $500, anything better than crap would be a bonus.
It has at least $500 worth of salvageable parts.
Of course bidding is far above this amount.
Given the condition of Ghias I have looked at over the last few years, I would never bid on a ghia without inspecting it unless I knew the seller or they were recommended.
I did it once on an ebay car about a year ago. The car looked great in the photos and was represented as rust free. I gave no deposit and the seller was here in VA. Went to get the car. It was a rust bucket. Heater channels were shot. I looked in the floor vent. I could see right through to the 'Vert support which also was rotted. Package tray was all rust and floors were shot. Oh yeah. Hood would not open all of a suddden. I could not inspect under there. I had seen enough. I did not need to. I was out a wasted day. |

It also has the wrong top on it it should have a glass rear window.
I would agree that anyone interested should personally inspect. I bought mine on eBay based on conversations with seller and too few photos. (Had not found this site at the time). When I removed the paint. I found many surprises. If your interested check my gallery for a few. |

pkane:
Some of those photos are scarey! Its not too far from the red '71 I looked at about a year ago here in VA.
The original photo of the car looks good, just like the car I bid on. After inspecting the car, which I bid $4,500 for, I told the guy I would give him $2.5K, which I felt was generous. He said he had other buyers.
I said "See 'ya". He did sell the car. eventually |

BAHA!
I almost bought a ghia from a man who had installed a WOODEN floor. I wanted to punch him right in his mouth. |

I had a bud in highschool who drove an "antique" ford pickup with a huge rust hole in the passenger floorboard under the carpet. He liked it because it gave him a place to drop offending subtances if need be due to run ins with the local police...
I got in one day, noticed that the floor was solid and pulled back the carpet. He had pop rivited a stop sign over the hole... 8) |

Can you believe this mess fetched $5,151.00?

It just shows what Ghia 'Verts will bring on the east coast.
Of course I would not be surprised to see this relisted. |

I think that's over market even for here. I've been watching and a more solid one went for $4K. Last week. then again it may have been just the pretty paint that sold it......

It's horrible.. :( just kidding :)
Sorry I had to I just got a bunch of pics from Alan, (very honest and up front) not to bad but the top is trash as stated. I does have some rust issues, Front floor corner, rocker bottoms and rear quarter. Headlight buckets.
I can't stop you but, I had planned to make a decision within a week. but it's first come first serve, I just don't want to get into a bidding war. I figure I'll drop at least another 2K into doing the work myself. 1K$ for the top and liner then the floor panels and other patch panels, finally paint. Double that to have someone do it for you...
The big decision for me right now is coupe or vert. I also have a very nice sunbeam to throw into the mix, but I'm really drawn into the ghia...I'm pushing a coupe, wifey wants a vert.. I remind her that she always wants the windows up and the radio down ,, "and you want a vert??"

Yes Alan was fast with his replies too .
Dont worry , no bidding wars  ... already have a 72 vert as it is to keep busy with anyway. Its just after seeing the 73 Ghia, it appears to be in much better condition for the price. I guess any cars around that price are going to need the common rust repairs mentioned. Seem most of the lower panel areas needing attention is just a given when buying a fixer upper. I didnt realize it needed the whole top frame and all. I'd still take having to find a new frame over having to do all the front end collision repair work which I had discovered on this one. Alan mentioned the nose had no damage. One of the few lucky Ghias ! |

Nice car! I have a 73 Coupe that was (and will be) Ravenna green, It'd be nice to have this vert and my coupe side by side in the garage <sigh> |
