so my square was running a bit rough and I really didn't have time to mess with it so I was going to call a local AC FI mechanic. The guy I bought the square from recommended some guy I'd never heard of but I called him anyway (he had done an oil change and 'tune up' for him about a week earlier). Needless to say that after seeing one big red flag at the beginning of the conversation when he asked me to spell my first name (which is Mike....) I canceled the appointment in favor of a local vw shop I had heard good things about from SEVERAL people.
So turns out this highly recommended (but spelling impaired) mechanic had put 5 quarts of oil in my square AND cross-threaded a new spark plug. So after draining 2 quarts of oil, a valve adjustment, carefully threading the spark plug in correctly, and tightening up the front end a bit my vintage vw guy says that it runs better than any type 3 he's ever driven (we'll see about that). FI tests good, as does compression. I'm just waiting on a new brake master cylinder (holy 150 bones batman) and I'll be set to go! I can't wait to pick it up on Tuesday! |

that's great
just to be safe, by a helicoil kit and another spark plug, figure out how it's used, and throw them in the glovebox. my experience is that some time down the road, that spark plug hole will be a problem, and you will be glad you did it |

Yeah he had mentioned that it might be an issue later - and said there was a fix but didn't say what it was. Thanks for advice. I will pick one up. |
