Hello, My bus is 76.8 inches high stock. I need to be able to lower it to 24 inches high to fit in my garage. Any ideas on how to drop the bus on hydrolics to park in garage and drive it at stock height. Right now it is a body without a motor , so I want to use disc brakes and an upgraded motor. Any ideas on that too would be appeciated.

air bag it or change your garage

I am sorry. I really don't know that much. Are air shock systems easily installed and available?

I think the Sawzall is your only option to lower it to 24 inches high.

New garage or trade for a spit bug.
Don't destroy it because of your lack of accomodations.

Ok I know what hes trying to do, but when I first read that statement, it looked like he wanted to crush the bus down to 24 inches high.

Well if you have tall tires, you could try putting on low profile tires if you dont mind the rpm increase. That might give you a couple of inches. My bus is finally out of the weather in my garage. I had somewhat the same problem. My garage door was too close to the top of the bus when driving it in. To my suprise and relief, I found a way. The garage door wasnt adjusted to go up enough to be even with the door frame. Since I had an automatic door opener system, I just set the upper limit switch for a higher stop height. No more worries about bus hitting the door.

Let me see if I have this right. This doood wants to get his bus lower than "24 inches" and y"all are offering up solutions such as "air bags" & "kcw". Maybe reading comprehension is what is really needed here.

And what is your suggestion besides english classes?

Additional thought here. load up the bus. Put weight in it. Im not sure how desperate you are to get your bus inside the garage, but adding more weight to it could also get you closer to your goal. Not sure what kind of bus you have, or the options to put stuff in it are. I cleaned my garage enough to get the bug and bus inside. Adding weights like dumbells or other stuff plus lower profile tires just might get your bus inside. If you want to lower the suspension, thats a whole new topic there. I personally hate owning lowered vehicles, while they do have a look all their own, you do loose functionality. If you want the lowered look anyway, and dont mind the value your bus looses or maybe gains to potential buyers then go for it. Lowering a bus costs money. Way over 500 bucks to start with done right, unless you get lucky and have the parts donated to you. Again thats a guess, but I wouldnt do it cheaply or or try a method thats unsafe.

You're gonna have to REALLY load it up to get it down to TWO FEET TALL!!!

quartermilecamel Sat Aug 16, 2008 4:31 am

Well he hasnt stated exactly how much total height he needs to drop the bus. 1 inch, 2 inches, 3 inches..... If I were him I wouldnt lower the bus but raise the garage. A 23 window bus in good shape is worth a lot. A lowered 23 window bus is worth a lot....to less of a crowd. The more one lowers a bus or any vehicle the more the ride begins to suck..Ive been in a lowered bug I owned...........hated the ride.......raised it back up...adjustable front end.

My suggestion, besides english classes is to plug in your Bullshit Detectors. Mine's pegged. :!:

I'm thinking he meant 74 inches because I had the same problem (75" garage on a cookie-cutter house). Lower it or smaller tires. Me.... I just knocked the roof down on the bus with a hammer. Too bad you have those pesky windows up there...

krusher Sat Aug 16, 2008 8:31 am

If indeed this isn't April the 1st. 76.8 down to 74? is only 2.8", that isnt a big deal send him to the lowering thread.

cdennisg Sat Aug 16, 2008 8:38 am

Just a guess here, but I think he meant 2-4 inches lower. He's getting lambasted for lack of a hyphen.

I say slam that bitch.

slow36hp Sat Aug 16, 2008 8:43 am

he better have meant 2-4 because i am not sure which variety of bus has 24" of space under it to lower into.
