What is the easiest way to remove axle tube end castings? I'm going to have the end castings and axle tubes powder coated two different colors so I need to separate 'em =)

Thanks

More trouble than it's worth IMO.

But they are just held in by a taper pin.

Anybody that builds VW transaxles should have a press set up to handle it. You do need to first remove the tapered pin, then set the tube in a big press. The guy that did mine made some tools to fit under the flange to support the pressure, otherwise you will bend the axle tube flange. Mine came apart easy, but I have heard of others being ruined before they come apart. Then you have the trouble of re-aligning the tube and end casting to accept the pin again.

One thing, usually machinists and tranny builders are not the most careful with regard to paint detail, etc. You will probably get them back with some scratches somewhere, so good luck!
