Ok Ive been wondering for a while about these, but after seeing the trailbash pics I gotta ask.
Did VW install these or are they homebrew installations? I want to see better pics. Mainly cause Id love to build one for my SC
Anyone else have pics of any?

| I’m pretty sure its custom, there are a few sites devoted to single and double cabs, and they have every special make and I haven’t seen any of them with this feature. I’m building a pull out tray right now for my 60 s/c, I’m making it an electric and I’m planning on fitting 12 12v deep cycle batteries on it. I haven’t seen how other people have made the tray, but if anyone has detailed pics that would be awesome |

I would imagine similar sort of tracks to those used for tool chests would be a good bet, should be able to bear the weight pretty well. Shame they don't make snap-on chests that deep. Or do they?? That would be freakin' sweet.
Good luck, I'd love to see one of these in the flesh |

good idea. the old non-blade style servers have some weight and if they can hold a server, they can for sure hold a wood box with some junk in it. |

| made mine out of plywood, screws, 2/2s........slides in/out just fine...have to use alittle muscle but not to much....had to put 2/4 in front of it so it wouldnt hit structure under the bed ....but took about 3 hours to build and been using for 2 years.... made it tall on the sides so it wouldnt flop down when you pull out....im concrete guy.....so i use it every day to pull out my tool bags and such things......very handy and easy to build....works just fine....just dont make to tight of a fit if your truck bed leaks.... |

My snap-on tool box has drawers that pull out pretty far. Maybe not that far but if you used 2 pairs set at different depths you could get it to pull out that far or more. And they hold ALOT of weight. I regularly sit in my pulled out drawers to eat lunch.
I've seen those singles in person and those drawers are amazing. |

I imagine RV pop outs use sliding tracks that would work.
My Heilite tent trailer has some on there that would be just the ticket. |

both mine and the amish kid's treasure chest drawers are custom. i wouldn't be surprised if this piece of literature is the inspiration.

There are several companies that make slide out trays for everyday pickups. They are sold to carpenters and contractors. Check in the back of fine homebuilding magazine for advertisements. They extend (unsupported) at least 5 feet.Maybe you could just buy the glides and build your own box.
I had built one out of wood for an old truck (not VW) several years ago. Build a box and some wooden rails on the sides that allow the box to slide in and out. If the outer rails are mounted well they can support the weight easily. A little wax on the rails keeps them sliding. The only problem came when the weather changed and when the wood swelled from moisture, some times the glides, wouldn't. |
