| I found a panel bus for sale and was wondering what its worth. They said it has no engine and no interior, but the body is supposed to be solid. There is also no title. They are asking $1000. They think it's either a '58 or '59. The nose looks like it was banged up a little and was bondoed over to fix it. Is it even worth close to $1000 for it? It sounds like it pretty much just a solid roller with a missing engine and interior.[/img] |

| This one doesn't have any bumpers on it. Did they change the bumpers in '59? |

| Yes, late 58, they changed to overrider style bumpers. 58 and 59 is a big difference in pricing for sure. The tailights also sit a bit higher in a 58 as apposed to a 59. |

No bumpers sucks, what else has already been highgraded off of it?
Does it have tail lights? (correct, original ones I mean)
Signal lights, headlights, front door handles inside and out?
Front seat?
Engine apron?
Key?
IF it has all those things AND a solid body, it's worth it.
Those little items I mentioned will cost more close to a thousand bucks to get if they are missing. Pressed bumpers themselves will run you more than a thousand. Even overriders front and rear can cost $500 these days.
There aren't many little bolt on bits on a panel, but they will add up in a hurry if you don't have them.
Good glass?
Bus wheels?
etc .....
Most important - pics! |

| Get extensive pictures if you can't see it in person, before you even think about buying it. Underside, engine bay, interior, exterior... then post them here :D |

58-60 panel bus? They're worth big bucks, Real big $. Double door? Now them are serious colector items. I'd say mortgage your house (as if you could these days) if one comes along. :)
Check the ads here soon, you might see one of them rare birds. 8) |

Ya, in the nineties it was worth $100-$200. Now a low level roller project is worth about $1000. I am sure you can find some pulled out of the weeds project s in the classifieds for 2K, 3K, 4K as well. (well, westies and DCs and early/ with accessories do cost more) Hell, there's a 16K DC.
Then again, about 6 months to a year ago I bought a 63 standard, og two tone paint, roller, no major dents, no seats, no motor, no rear bumper, hacked wheel wells, a bit more than usual W Wa rust, sitting for ten+ years, for $1000 and I'm not sure if that was a good deal. It has a good look, though, if you like fade.
And it does make a decent storage shed.
Yes, a roller rust free 59 panel is worth $1000 IMO. But in general, if someone wants opinions of a particular bus, they shoulds post pictures. Then take the responses with a grain of salt.
Here is a search in the classifieds for buses $5000 or less. I don't see a whole lot of driving buses in that price range:

| The bus was on craigslist. I e-mailed the owner and he said it sold the same night he posted it on there. Someone must have thought it was a good deal. |

| I asked the seller how much he got and he said someone gave him $900 for it. said someone from the twin cities came to look at it at 11pm. They must have really wanted it. |

Ok, i guess the bus was a '56. Here's the guy who bought it. It's already on the samba here. http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=654463
If i would have know it was a '56 i probably would have went for it. |
