I would like to see pictures of Ghia on sprintstar 4 or 5 lugs...I am working to fit 4 lugs sprintstar under my 68 ghia. The short axles are already done. Now I am refurbishing the wheels.
4 1/2 in front and 5 1/2 in the rear. I plan to put 2 1/2 dropped sindles on 2'' narrow beam on the front with 145 r15 tire and stock rear supension with something like 185 75 R 15...195 70 R 15 or 205 65 R 15 depending of what is available and what will fit under the fenders. I will post pics of the ghia as soon as I will have some tire mounted on the rear rims.

Great ghia!
Which size of tires under the ghia? Rims are the 5.5 inches all around! Tight fit!

Mighty fine car. I took another shot of it from the rear side; search in Ghia Coupe from a few years ago  |

I put one wheel in the back of my 68 ghia. It is a 5 1/2 sprintstar with a 205-65 R 15. The diameter of the tire is 25.5" the same as a 165R15. I have put a set of short axle to fit the tire under the fenders. Just anxious to put the car on the floor with the engine in the back to have the right level....
Just found a set of 4 x 5.5 with the VW center caps. I later found 2 x 4.5 for the front. What kind of nut is suppose to go there. Chrome? Plastic caps? Black?
Here the 4,5 inches front wheels. I planned to use 145 R 15 tire on the front (4.5")..can I go to 135R15? I will use 2 1/2 dropped spindles on a CB 2 inches narrow beam...................any idea?
Thanks

The info in this thread should give you some good ideas - http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=98943&highlight=sprint
I like four bolt Sprint Stars on Ghias, this one has to be my all time favorite.

Thanks for the thread. My wheel are empi and I had a deal on them...if I compare to the price mentionned....
That ghia is really cool! I will probably go with the 145 because I do not want to lower the rear of the ghia ......I am anxious to finish it and drive it! Next summer it will hit the road.

My beam is stock, but I do run dropped spindles, it rubs on tight turns. The rubbing is almost at "lock" position. Not enough for me to rush out for a narrowed beam yet 8) .

John, you are on 5.5'' flat 4 on the front but what is the tire size you run? If somebody run 4.5'' Empi on the front I think that it must clear without any problems. By the way your Ghia is looking good and the front is at the level I want mine sit.

This is my '64 on flat 4 Sprintstars, I have 155 Michelins XZX on the front and a 195 x 65 Michelin on the rear, they just clear the stock fender.
The rears just fit without modifing the rear guard.

What's your beam setup? Any issues with rubbing? Trying to visualize how low I'll be able to go with mine.

Looks good!
Is the rear is at stock height?

Rear is at stock height, although I think it has sagged a little over time.
The front is a stock beam with 2 avis adjusters and a Vintage Vee Dub Supplies wide 5 disc brake kit that narrows the front track 6mm a side, it does rub slightly on tight turns.
This is the brake kit.
