Well i stared at this frozen drum for a long time wouldnt come off after banging forever etc the center part was just frozen and rusty and not sure how many years was frozen on it. i think the plates on this bus say 81 :P
Here it is is it not the most beautiful thing in the world ?
This is what it is for to pull off frozen brake drums :) you put the jack in and pump away !!!!!
I even got a jack with a head small enough to fit into the brake drum to help pull it all the way out !!!
Yup everything rusty and crusty .. luckily i always buy all new parts for a bus when its been off the road for 27 years at least !!
I tried the pb blaster for days and days that just wouldnt do it hence all the wetness :p
I know others made tools too. but im a goober and this one is mine !!!!
Notice this is a Big Nut on this 62 kombi. Somone in the past must have changed it out . i bought brake parts accordingly. |

| I love it. Big grunt tools are gnarly. I have a stuck drum and an old bent rim. Care if I copy it if I can't get it with the usual methods? |

That is friggin gnarly, a frankenstein approach that makes total sense. I had a mega stuck drum and did the PB Blaster, heat, beat my drum puller into oblivion, even began to bend Kombisutra's thick metal plate puller. Wasn't until I used a 60 lb jack hammer against the stub axle did it break loose.
You my friend have come up with the puller of all drum pullers, I certainly could have used this. Anybody who has had a mega stuck drum can appreciate what you have created. Great Job. I bet someone is making one just like yours right now!!
Was there any major resistance while pumping the jack? |

| Aaahhhh. No more "Maybe if we shake the whole bus side to side, it'll pop loose!" No more short handle sledge wacks in an attempt to get enough downward angle spin. No more "Man! I can almost see the star adjuster!" No more little ditches dug in the dirt/gravel/mud/snow by a non spinning tire. No more "Stupid backing plate. Why's it gotta go around the outside of the drum?" These, and many more will be missed. :( |

I'm thinking he's talking about how bottle jacks get air in the pump when you lay them on their side unless they are made to lay sideways.

Wouldn't that weaken it? |

Still plenty strong, plus smaller, lighter, more stool-like and if I do say so myself a tad bit sexier but hay whatever gets the job done.
No air lock because you pump it to almost the correct size standing upright, then put it in the contraption. Once in place you only need pump it once or twice before ...BANG!.. the drum crack loose. |

Too funny on both counts!
I'm sure miscreant put his together in a hurry just to get the job done. So no harm, no foul. But the "dual" purpose of the puller/stool is definitely a better deal. 8) |
