It's mine......

the rims are sprint stars painted GM silver and are 5.5 on front and back. the front tires where 165/45/15 and the rears were 195/45/15... the back spacing I think is 31/2 or 4".... It's got a type 1 beam narrowed 5" by KCW and 21/2 dropped spindles... now with that said,, I'm in mossouri and the roads are bad,, lots of patches and alot of construction and uneven pavement.. the front end was about an inch off the ground and would scrape all the time.. there's not enough side wall on those tires., plus the ride was awfull..... hard very hard,, what made me change the tire size was when they cover a hole in the road they use a large steel plate and I got the corner of it and almost put me out the window.. so now I changed the tire size and front rim size... the ride is great and I just need to do a little work to the inside rear fender wells so they don't rub......I went to a 41/2 front rim with a 145/65 and the 51/2 with 195/65 on the rear and I added trim rings to set the rims off.. tell me what you think. the first pic is one of the old front tires next to a stockvw rim with a 135 on it. you can see how much lower it was.

I'll never waste any more money on 45 series band aid tires! They ride like shit/look like shit/drag your beam! :x

well...........I like them and that's what counts. I would have put 135's on but my son got a better deal on the 145's at work

trim rings come from ebay 55.00 plus shipping.

Mike Fisher Tue Aug 19, 2008 9:55 am

Me? I'm dissing 45 series low profile tires, not 145's! My 66 project square came with 125X70X15 temps on 2.0 liter wheels and 145's out back that I can't wait to try out!? I think they'll be better in the rain.

Erik G Tue Aug 19, 2008 10:06 am

Temps are horrible in the rain, been there done that.

I suspect you will try it anyways, so good luck stopping or turning!

Mike Fisher Tue Aug 19, 2008 10:30 am

Really? I've gotta try them a little bit, but I'll be careful! I've got 165 or 195 to replace them!

bigracedad Tue Aug 19, 2008 11:27 am

these tires are Federal Formoza FD1.. it's a very Hard ride with the beam down and 3 clicks in the rear sometimes my head would hit the roof. I wouldn't trust them in the rain

Erik G Tue Aug 19, 2008 11:38 am

thats interesting because my homies taxi has the 165/45/15's, and it rides great

bigracedad Tue Aug 19, 2008 11:50 am

the car handled ok but no "give" with the car lowered. felt like I was driving a go cart..with the new tires the car rides like a caddy but It's changed the look of the car..

Erik G Tue Aug 19, 2008 11:54 am

ahh, that gives me an idea

you do know when lowering a bug with adjusters, you do not set the adjusters at the same pitch, right? thats to say, they shouldnt be set in the same exact place, they should actually be fighting eachother. If this makes no sense, I'll try to search for a better explination

kris25 Tue Aug 19, 2008 1:11 pm

all i can say is =D> i wanted to do the same thing to my buddys fasty hes buying and that was before i even seen yours.i think it looks good.are they empi or flatfour sprint stars

the term is "preloading" them against each other and yes it makes a nice difference if you do so...ken....

Good looking Fasty bigracedad... Same color as my Squareback, whatever original paint is left of it anyway... It gives me hope for the pig nose.

They'd naturally ride worse, much less rubber dampening your ride, since I'm going to guess you have no shocks.. Bouncy ride + small tires = rough ride. The 145s would definitely feel softer.

Note: I've never driven 135s or 145s (or 125 temps, which are for hoodriders, and should be replaced; if you're not going to get wider tires, at least use regular rated 125s - cokertire.com), but I'm going to guess they would be far worse than the 165/45! A taller, skinner tire, with an archaic tread pattern vs. a newer one, probably better materials, and more developed tread?

*EDIT* All that being said, the fasty in this thread looks sick.
