| the vacuum modulator in my 73 is shot. transmission fluid sucked through the vacuum lines into the motor, (making it smoke) and brake servo (making the brakes fail) and losing AT fluid (keeping if from going in gear.) When these things happen all at once, it's a lot of fun to be driving on the highway. my main beef is that i can't find ANYONE online who carries a replacement vacuum modulator. anyone have any suggestions? I contacted all the dealers on ratwell's site and haven't had any luck. |

Unless you find a good used one..... you are out of luck.... they are no longer available.
Most people dump the early 003 trans for the later 010 unit.... much better trans and parts are available. |

| You can occasionally find them on eBay. Do a "favorites" search for " vw, type, modulator, +(3,4,iv)" and eventually one should come up. |

I actually happen to have a good working one of those left. It's part number is: 003-325-391 which my manual tells me works for: '72-'73 & '74 Bus except California.
Here is a link to it in The Samba Classifieds:
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=652953&
Or you can just call us (Avery's Air Cooled) at: 800-458-5852
A customer of ours has been looking all over for a '68 to '71 Type 3 Automatic Vacuum Modulator as well, so if anyone knows of one of those (part number: 003-325-391A) he would very much appreciate it.
Have a good one,
Mike

| Try Green Valley Transmissons in Tulsa, Oklahoma. I don't have their number handy but they do rebuild VW automatics. |
