Looking for gauges for my buggy build. Anything other than VDO? Also trying to figure on my fuel gauge and sender. How about some pics.
Thanks

Dolphin gauges bought on EBAY for about $180. Their universal gas sender works just fine with a stock tank. You do need to fab up an adapter for the speedo cable. Not sure how accurate the speedo is based on tire combo etc.

Really nice and clean look you have there. I wonder if there is a web site for those gauges

i have black vdo cockpit gauges, but If I were to do it myself, I think I'd go with the single superbeetle gauge

Yup...sure is:

Search "dolphin gauges" on ebay and you will find them a little cheaper. You need to go mechanical speedo because they don't have a sender that will work.

You saying their electronic speedo will not connect up to the hall effect sender so popular with VDO or other gauges used on VW's...

Seems like their site is lacking, as I could not find any TECH spec on it for their product.

Think I would skip Dolphin and move on to somehting that has better support....

Try looking at various other gauge providers here....

Agreed. No tech support, I could never determine if the electronic speedo would work with another sender, and yes, their site is lacking.

For $169 for 6 gauges one can rightfully assume that they are not the highest quality. But the senders (other than water temp) work perfectly, the covers are real glass, and they function well. For how long? No idea. Comparable VDO gauges would be twice the amount.

But...if your on a budget, and don't have unlimited funds, then they are a good alternative. If you have got the cash there are always autometer or VDO, and thats what I would recommend.

So I was looking at speedometers and found these guys

considering the cost of mechanical/ electrical sending units ,propietary control modules and final dash gauges these will work for me no posibility of corrosion on parts from outdoor exposure.
and they have an excellent rep in the offshore powerboat race circuit as far as gauge reliability.

I choose to use something different than the run of the mill VDO or Autometer gauges. I used a set of gauges from ISSPRO. They have been building gauges for over 50 years for trucks and so forth. They are now building them for cars also.

These are white faced, 'Flamed' gauges. I like the look of them, they are built nicely, work well, and look cool lit at night.

I used a set with an electronic speedo. Here is a pic of them in the dash of my Deserter.

Here they are in the box.

The picture of the set in the box is for sale. Check my ads for that set if you like them...for alot less than egauges! ...this commercial brought to you by...

Tom
