I'm trying to ID my bus. Is it a Westy? Is it a Dormie? Is it a Wormie? So here's the ID plates.

I've added all the descriptions to the photos there. I'm having a helluva time figuring out how to post those images on here. OH I hate technology... but it is so necessary...[/img] |

| Yes, that was what I was informed it was. Then I was told it was a westy with a dormie top. I'm just curious whether its a true dormobile, or what IS a true dormobile. |

Yeah, what Sunshine said. Also, that thing in pic DSC00046 is a ladder ... oh wait you already know that too  .
The spot next to the speedo was for a clock (optional), but you can put a tach or some other gauge in there. |

| Westfalia interior and Dormobile top. True Dormobile camper equipment looks nothing like that. |

Well for sure it is a Westy with a Dormobile top, which was an option at the time. Our buses are alike in that mine is a 69 Montana red model as well. You can see some pics in my gallery of mine, OG paint which is really faded. Here is some info on your bus:
Your bus started life as a factory prepared Montana red 69 Westy. Your conversion, the SO-69/1 Oslo came with a Dormobile roof as an option from the factory. The Oslo interior you have is uncommon but coupled with the Dorm top it is pretty rare. It also is m-coded for a few rare options including the non-walkthrough partition, lockable engine lid, Emden car radio, and Eberspacher BN4 petrol heater. The book VW Camper The inside story actually has your exact bus featured with pictures that I can scan and send to you when I work again.
Here is your m-code plate decoded:
24 2 Production date 24th week, day 2
181 Chrome hubcaps
191 With outer center underfloor plates
500 Full width metal partition between cabin and load compartment
507 Ventilation windows in cabin doors
517 Factory Prepared for Campmobile interior
426 Group of codes:
020 Speedometer and Odometer in Miles
089 Laminated Windscreen Glass
511 Padded Dashboard and Dashboard lid
524 USA and Canada Specifications
094 Lockable engine lid
097 Emden car radio
119 Eberspacher BN4 petrol heater with outlet in load/passenger compartment
2310 Komb1, LHD, Sliding door right, Standard Version
523331 Paint/interior code Montana Red Westfalia color
I couldnt decode your destination code because I cant make it out on your plate; it is on the bottom left and is 2 letters. If you send it to me I will look it up. |

| Caleb, you friggen rock. I'll have to keep all that info! I think I'm going to buy that book you mentioned too. I believe the last couple of digits you're looking for are 21. They are in the second to last row on the left sort of hidden in the 'fuzz'. What resource did you use to look all that up? |

The information is all readily available, not only on this site, but many others as well. |

| Well, just looked up that book on Amazon. It's a bit pricey right now, I'd rather dump my money into Tobias. Perhaps you could scan that pic when you have a minute. I'm thinking of bringing him back to his OG red. I'm not a fan of red, but I like the idea of bringing him back to his roots. In that code, was the Oslo interior referring to the upholstry or the paneling, or the package of both? |

The 21 actually is the code for the engine/tranny, basically saying it came with a 1600/Manual trans. The destination code should be below that one, 2 digits, probably hidden in all of the fuzz. I decoded your m-plate with this book, lots of good info:

And this one is on camper conversions, where I found the other info:

Until approximately Chassis number 2x9 151 000 of model year 1969 there were no codes for the German market. In that case the space of this code remains empty.
I don't see anything on that M code plate where the export code would be. Looks like this Bus was built for the German market. |

135920 is his chasis number, and it appears to be empty. Does this imply that his bus was originally sold in the German market and then made its way over here at some point?
EDIT: Ah, I just thought my eyes were going bad! I guess it is blank... |
