View original topic: Bus prices take away all the fun!

Not to sound nagging here.
I'm looking to buy a driver deluxe bus, and my budget is $10000 and i can't even find one!!!
Looking at the classifieds, it seems the prices have recently just increased dramatically!!!
Is it just me, or does this just take away all the fun of buying/owning a vw bus? As a owner i would feel like i have a rolls and can't park it without fearing it would get stolen and i would loose a lifes saving!
As a buyer i have to consider it an investment, not 'buying a car'.

Didn't these busses used to be hippi's favorites since it was cheap, reliable, and spacious. Not its not a hippis bus anymore....now you have to be rich to own one!
I feel like the whole 'hippi' side of the vw bus is totally gone...

Sorry to be so depressing, but thats just my cents.

I keep looking and hoping someone will realize that getting $10000 for their bus is actually really good!

I hope that is true, A lot of people are getting tired of fixing wheel wells and stuffing trash cans full of shag carpet.

If you're only looking on the samba, it may not be the best place to get a great deal. Your basically picking all the low fruit here, and fishing from the dock.

If you dig further, local classifieds, bus hunting drives, let everyone you know your in the market, you might find your bus. I found my westy in a carport on a delivery. I never could have bought it here for what I paid.

I love the samba, have bought many parts/cars and gained alot of knowledege here...but if you're buying a vw here, you'll probably pay the premium. jm2c

This seems pretty nice, and who knows he may take less.

Keep trying, my budget was <$5000 and it took me about 6 months. 10K should get you a pretty nice deluxe especially if 64-67 is ok with you.

I would have to agree with you to a certain point. That point being flippers that find rusty vw's and pay little for them compared to what they turn them over for. But as an owner of three vintage vw's and having first hand experience in the restoration process of these notoriously rusty old vehicles I can say that 10,000.00 is way low when you consider the cost of restoration. I have a 65 standard and after nearly two years of hard work and aproxmately 30,000. in costs to get it where it is today WTF would I want to sell it for 10,000.00? Your talking about a deluxe..... Unless you want to hunt and buy a decent project and than spend the $ to get it in shape, you'll never appreciate the labor of love and costs it takes to accomplish a dream of owning a classic. Just my .02.....

I will have to agree on you here.
It's all about supply and demand (economics class), but i still hate the fact that they are so exp!!
Anyway, yes i'm looking at a '64-'67 deluxe :)
