View original topic: How much current can a solenoid switch handle

Was looking at a permanent duty solenoid (ford style) to isolate my second aux bat bank, & noticed they recomended a 30 anp fuse on the output side of the circuit. It was always my understanding that they could handle much more power than that. Any one know how to tell?

The rated capacity of every solenoid is marked right on it. You should be able to find one that can carry as much current as you would ever need. If it is just to isolate the battery, you don't need a high amp solenoid. A charging battery doesn't pull that many amps.
