| Where is the switch for the fresh air fan in a 79 Bus? I have looked at the Bentley for it, and for some reason can't for the life of me find it. I can find the wiring for it in the wiring diagram but thought there should be a physical switch of some sort. My fan isn't working and would like to repair it if I could only find the bugger. |

Are you talking about these fans?

They were optional... are you sure you have them? |

| On my '78, the two speed fan switch is located right beside the headlight switch, inboard. |

Wow..they're that expensive!! I think mine came with them. I thought they were standard items. Doesn't seem to have much flow though...:? |

| My moneys on heater booster fan, the switch is part of the red lever on the dash, when you pull it down it grounds the relay and makes blow happen. |

These fans seem standard over here.
The fans (& motors) are mounted in the duct under the green circle. The operating switch is a two speed twist knob at the red circle.
Cheers, A. |

OK, this must be where the switch used to live
This is the fan I am refering to.
.
Bentley has it listed as a fresh air fan in track 62 of the wiring diagram and the switch in track 60. This is the first non splity bus Ihave owned and I'm not used to all these new fangled electric thingies. |

That's the booster fan for the heat (HA!). That should turn on when you slide the right (I think) red heater control to the down position. |

About ten years ago, at the autojumble of a local VW show, I bought a pair of these fans, albeit lacking the switch & wiring loom, for the relatively modest sum of £10 (just under US$20 at current exchange rates). A defunct 1968~79 VW Type 2 two-speed, windscreen-wiper switch, served just as well.

Out of curiousity, how would you expect a fan sitting over the enclosed engine compartment to collect fresh air?
 |

| Fresh air comes in via the body intakes and is sucked down into the engine fan. The engine compartment is under slight vacuum from the fan so this is why all the seals, rubber bits etc must be in good condition or the engine will suck in heated air and you'll breath it too. |

Which is why the heating system is lacking! 8)
Seriously though, if you are looking for actual fresh air fans, go with the ambulance fans. Or you can do what I, and others, have done; install in-line blowers in your front ducts. |

I had the optional fans in my 72 and they were soo loud I hardly used em.
Looking for a quieter solution, so what other fans have been tried and worked? :D |

I'm just calling it what Bentley manual called it. As to actually expecting "Fresh Air" heh, I expect the same air I have now only a little more of it. I live in Washington and winter is a bit colder than my days in Huntington Beach. LOL. |
