I'm putting new carpet in my vert. Been a good news/bad news kind of day.

The good news: Pulled the old carpeting out without any trouble.

The bad news: Control cables running to the front heat footwells were frozen inside the conduits. Both cables had snapped at the lever.

The good news: Bought new conduits and cables at the local bicycle store, and the conduit fits perfectly inside the existing steel guides.

More good news: Pulled the pedal cluster in preparation for the new carpeting.

The bad news: Found a leaking master cylinder and worn out clutch pedal hook...almost ready to break.

The good news: Found both problems before they got serious, and I have a new pedal hook waiting. Time to rebuild the pedal cluster, it's a mess.

The bad news: Pretty much time for a new ma$ter cylinder, wheel cylinder$, and brake line$. The carpeting will have to wait.

Got the new beam in yesterday, Had drop spindles on it but was too low. Today, I put some stock spindles I had on and adjusted it to where I could still turn. Looks and rides a lot better. Really stiff though.

I cleaned out some of the crap that was in it from sitting outside. Ice in the floors, leaves  . Also took out the shoulder belts out to rip out the scraps of headliner that're left over from the PO's violent ripping out of the headliner.

Replaced turn signal flasher- noticed the old one was longer and had a VW logo, the new one was shorter, made in Indonesia by some poor kids who park thier elephants outside the factory. Nothing worked, things got worse, then I noticed a wire had become dislodged from the fuze box. all is fine now. I am applying to fuse box school in indonesia.

dont forget to use hand sanitizer.

Drove it to work since my DD was dead. The expressway is enough to scare me and the car white!

installed the new door surround seal, now my doors are hard to close, I'm not sure if it is because the seal is new or I put it in wrong :x

I cut the floors out of my pan and cleaned up some of the ugliest welding I've ever seen. Cleaned the tunnel down to bare metal and cut out the PO's crappy patchwork up near the front frame head only to fing that the tunnel is rotted through on both sides about 3/4 of the distance between the framehead and the shift lever.
If that wasn't enough, the frame head itself was rotted out all the way around except for about 8 inches across the top of the tunnel. The weld along the bottom looked alright until the paint stripper revealed that the "weld" was actually old hardened bathroom caulk!
I'm just glad it didn't break while on the road... and I'm glad the pan is back down to bare metal!

I took my 78 Super Vert, Dieter out for a drive. Had the day off and it's the only time I get to drive him. It's been in the shop most of the time I've owned him(July 2009), and now he's running like the Champ that he is! I did nothing but drive him around because I could.. :D

Fattie Thu Nov 12, 2009 1:39 am

greggy Thu Nov 12, 2009 2:56 am

ANSAracingb Thu Nov 12, 2009 5:50 pm

Put $20 worth of gas in it today.

Two days ago I removed the roof rack and stored it in the garage until further use...I'm gonna be moving in the next few weeks so it'll go back on the car soon.

LeviMan2001 Thu Nov 12, 2009 7:51 pm

Wire brushed the loose and crappy pitting and such BS on the floor. It's got some holes, more specifically, around the back of the front seat (front) mounts, and of course, some holes under the battery area, no more tie down mount, that was gone long ago, and a relatively large hole on the other side of the battery tray. I donno if I should patch with pieces or get new pans :?

ibjames Thu Nov 12, 2009 8:59 pm

installed retractable seat belts
