Put new points and condensor in my'73 Super, set the timing, and now I'm thawing and drying out. It's about 40 degrees and pouring rain, but I just wanted to GET IT DONE.

Bought about 32 bucks worth of spray paint. Most of it was for the floors after I sandblast them, but I also got a beige color to paint the rims with. I painted the spare tire's rim just to test out the color. I'm quite pleased with the result (That is the spare on the car right now, cause the one that actually goes there had a flat and made it hard to move around the driveway):

The rest of them will be done as part of the chassis portion of the project after I get the body off.

Took Me five hours but it was worth every minute! Stops like nothing I have ever driven its also the hardest pedal out of any car i have ever had!

what kit is that? and did it widen the front end at all?

Its A topline kit, I really love it. I have been pushing my comfort zone for braking into corners and still haven't had any fade!

i put on a new (well a less used) distributor and soldered some wires together, now it runs without missing and/or stalling :)

I finally got my carb running right and started adjusting my brakes. I figured i got it to go so now i got to make sure it stops.

Went to local import parts store and picked up tune up items, then off to domestic parts store and picked up oil. Tune up next weekend.

Replaced the broken lug on my left headlight ground wire, now it's nice and bright. 8)

I bet I put something on my yellow '71 super that no one else has.....an actual working taxicab meter. Modifying her to a "Tijuana Taxi." E-mailed a taxi supply company asking if he had any old, broken meters just for show that I could buy. For 10 bucks shipping, he sent me a small, working meter. Numbers light up and it works great, but it's not legal in the US anymore, because it only records time, not miles. Has Riverside, CA inspection stickers on it.

I'll post pics in "Reader's Rides" when I'm done. Have the meter, coin changer, Hula girl, taxi roof sign, checkered stripes and door lettering installed. Also have a personalized NC license plate that says "TIJUANA." VW mudflaps came today. Still waiting for my roof rack from Pedro, my outside windshield sun visor, black headlight rims, chrome headlight eyebrows and my ah-oogah horn to come. Already have a small chicken crate for the roof rack, but haven't found a decent fake chicken to have it's head sticking out of the top of the crate.

Wife thinks I'm grossly nuts, but it's worth it for all the smiles, chuckles, thumbs-ups and "great job"s I get. Feels good to bring smiles to people's faces. Those are one of two reactions I get. The other is a 100 yard stare and a "WTF" look.

Continued interior work on my 72 bug: wire wheeled floor pans, applied metal ready and rinsed, applied a lot of new seam sealer. Replaced outer bearing, brakes, wheel cylinders, seals and rubber brake lines. Cleaned rust out of spare tire well, applied seam sealer prepped for paint.

Finally changed my damn generator...after waiting forever for my ex-mechanic, I decide to do it myself.
Never have I messed with an engine on any car before, but was desperate to fix it. Took me like 4 hours, but at least I'm driving my car...

Today I was able to paint wheel #2 before the wind picked up this morning. Two more to go... ](*,)

Here's a shot of the one I painted next to one that still needs to be painted:

Then I was playing around with the center caps I have for them:

I know they're not real EMPI wheels but I picked up the EMPI caps for dirt cheap and like the look; I've had the chrome spinners for a while. Think I'll run the chrome caps the majority of the time, and use the EMPI caps for when I go to a car show.

Then after that I drove the girlfriend to sunny Monterey CA where we parked near the wharf and ate lunch:

Nice...the stock wheels look just fine!

Today I took out my speedo and I rebuilt it, and reset my odometer to 00000 miles - which is my motivation to start building a new motor to replace my tired old 1500 single port.

ANSAracingb Wed Mar 17, 2010 5:56 pm

Thanks Mike. :D

I painted those black also when I first got the car. But at least one of them is bent pretty bad (it has a LOT of wheel weights on one side) and I've always wanted a set of 8-spokes. I picked these up for pretty cheap; just touching them up before I buy tires and slap them on the car.

I'll probably keep the steel wheels with their tires for winter/rainy weather driving though.
