replaced the old fuel filter with a new one. the PO I dont think changed it from the other PO and the filter element was black

I did an oil change first time doing one on a air cooled tommorrow gonna tear down the carb and tuesday go buy a rebuild kit while the carb sits and sokes in a bath of carb cleaner

Im also going to buy another replacement carb while the price is still some what cheap

next week if the carb doesnt do the trick to get it to start Im going to drop the motor and do a rebuild

all this has to be done before I go to school in october

Took off my rusted through running boards, got all the water out of my passenger side door.

And hopefully if everything goes right I'll be fixing the oil leak and starting her up!

Can't be any worse than when I tried teaching my sister to drive a clutch, I swear the truck jumped up in the air and spun around a few times...haha

Got my bug running right. No more erratic idle and stalling out at lights or stop signs! :D

whobba Sat Aug 30, 2008 8:36 pm

Still working on the brakes, pulled the front left drum, cleaned it up with solvent, pulled the leaky old cylinder off, and put a new one on. The tie rod to that wheel is so freaky and worn out. I had no idea!

QurtysLyn Sat Aug 30, 2008 9:38 pm

Pulled the front fenders off, and cleaned out the Passenger side Heater channel. Scraped a ton of Bondo off of the driver side (PO fixed front end damage with Bondo, a lot of it...) Tomorrow, More sanding. The Next day, More sanding. Etc.

New fuel lines under the rear hood, scrubbed out 37 years of grime in the spare tire well , degreased engine compartment..

I put the last two pieces of tin on my engine. The ones that close off the head sides of the down tin since I don't have heater boxes. Should run cooler now, and provides more protection for the push rod tubes. Looks cool too!

Then I went out to Mesa and looked at some other bugs. I need to figure out the door stop. My doors swing all the way out until the hinge stops it. There is a metal bar there, it just doesn't do anything.

None of the bugs that showed up tonight had the door panels off so I couldn't see how it works. A few early 60s bugs in nice shape showed up so it was worth the trip.

Took it out Friday night, top down, we had drinks at a sports bar; came out, had just started raining, hurriedly put up the top, started pouring. Put top down Saturday morning, drove it around on a few errands, ran it up to 65 mph in 40 zone (too much power, 1835, have to watch it), took it out again Saturday night. Likely will drive it on errands again this morning.

Drove to work this morning noticed I lost a lug bolt. Bummer.

Tracked down a set of strut housings that look like they have good dampner rings. I hope to be able to finish my front end rebuild this week. I tore down more of the '75 Standard Beetle parts car I recently aquired. I found out that if the PO had been more careful with some of the things he did to the car, more of the parts would be reusable.

This was yesterday, I know I know, it's a pretty lame way of putting speakers in the bug, but they sound damn good and they work, so it doesn't bother me right now.

And this was today:

Still drips a tiny bit around all the cap nuts, but hey, it's a VW....it's not happy if it's not marking its' territory.
